On September 23rd 1993 Genova was flooded by heavy rainstorms and 4 people disappeared, including an elderly couple. Four days later a partially skeletonized body was found floating near the coast. No visual identification was possible. Autopsy findings were consistent with the medical history of a possible victim. Accidents remain a major health problem for children of all ages, in spite of attempts at prevention by industry, health workers, educators, and legislation. In order of decreasing frequency, serious pediatric accidents include moving-vehicle accidents, water-related accidents, burns, poisonings, and falls. Their cause, severity, and prevention will be considered, with future challenges emphasized.

Sudden unexplained death syndrome (SUDS) accounts for about 10% of deaths in patients with epilepsy. AIMS: To investigate the fatality rate and demographic characteristics of various suicide methods.
METHOD: This study enrolled consecutive individuals with episodes of suicide attempts registered in a surveillance database in a city with a high rate of suicide mortality in Taiwan, from January 1, 2006, to December 31, 2010. In total, 3,089 suicide attempt events (including 2,583 nonfatal suicides and 506 completed suicides) occurred during the study period.

In the period 1992-1996 a total of 89 unidentified bodies/skulls found in Danish waters were investigated at the three University Institutes of Forensic Medicine in Denmark. Males constituted 79% of the total material. Open water was the finding place in half the cases, about one-fourth was found on shore and another fourth in a harbor basin.
