An ∼12 yr old castrated mixed-breed dog was evaluated for a 7 wk progressive history of intermittent hyporexia, lethargy, and erosive dermatitis. Parapoxvirus infection in sheep and goats is usually referred to as contagious pustular dermatitis/ecthyma, or orf, and the corresponding human infection is referred to as orf. BACKGROUND: Erythema multiforme (EM) is an acute disorder of the skin and mucosal membranes manifesting in the oral cavity (60-70% of all patients) as polymorphic erosive, ampullar, and bloodstained crusts.
