Vestibular schwannomas expand slowly in the internal auditory canal, in the cerebellopontine angle, inside the cochlear and the labyrinth. Larger tumors can displace and compress the brainstem. With an annual incidence of 1:100 000 vestibular schwannoma represent 6-7% of all intracranial tumors. In the cerebellopontine angle they are by far the most neoplasm with 90% of all lesions located in this region. Nevus of Ota, a benign melanocytic pigmentary disorder with rare malignant transformation potential, affects 0.014-0.034% of the Asian and Black population and has a strong predilection for females. It occurs in the area innervated by the first and second division of the trigeminal nerve. Oral manifestation is rarely noted with only 14 cases reported till date. This report documents a case of Nevus of Ota with the infrequently noted oral involvement, in an Indian lady. Since oral manifestation is not acknowledged in Tanino's classification, the authors propose a modification to the same.

We investigated techniques of dissection of the facial nerve currently being used in parotid surgery for benign disease in oral and maxillofacial (OMF) and ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgery. The aim of this study was to elucidate the therapeutic decision process of angiosarcoma of the scalp and face including treatment modalities, tumor size, tumor grade, and resection margins. In a PubMed search, 170 abstracts were read and 32 full text articles were reviewed. Among them, 19 articles were analyzed. OBJECTIVE: To present a series of patients with facial nerve schwannomas (FNSs) presenting as occluding external auditory canal (EAC) masses.
STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective case series.
PATIENTS: Four patients were identified with mastoid segment FNSs occluding the EAC. Three patients presented with conductive hearing loss (CHL), and the fourth presented with facial paralysis, later developing CHL.
