Necrotizing fasciitis is a fatal, soft tissue infection of the skin that requires prompt treatment. Historically, most cases have been attributed to group A beta-hemolytic Streptococcus infection. However, in recent years, other bacteria have been identified as causing necrotizing fasciitis. In the current study, we analyzed cases of necrotizing fasciitis and examined the significant differences in symptoms caused by pathogenic bacteria. We included 79 patients (43 males and 36 females, mean age 65.4 years) diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis who visited our hospital between April 2004 and Ju

INTRODUCTION: Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is a rapidly progressive necrosis of the fascial layer with a high mortality rate. It is a life-threatening medical emergency that requires urgent treatment. Lack of skin finding in NF made diagnosis difficult and required a high clinical index of suspicion. The use of ultrasound may guide clinicians in improving diagnostic speed and accuracy, thus leading to improved management decisions and patient outcomes. This literature search aims to review the use of point-of-care ultrasonography in diagnosing necrotizing fasciitis.
METHOD: We searched relevant

INTRODUCTION: Necrotizing fasciitis as a complication of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ), which we named "ONJ-NF", has been sometimes reported. This study aimed to investigate the usefulness of the Laboratory Risk Indicator for Necrotizing Fasciitis (LRINEC) score for predicting ONJ-NF.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We included patients with acute MRONJ who required hospitalization at a single institution from April 2013 to June 2022. They were divided into two groups: patients with ONJ-NF and those with severe cellulitis as a complication of MRONJ, which we named "ONJ-SC." LRINE

Necrotizing fasciitis is an aggressive infection of the skin and soft tissues that requires prompt recognition and management. Immediate source control and adjunctive antibiotic therapy are the cornerstones of management. There are limited reported cases of necrotizing fasciitis related to gastrointestinal malignancy, including gastric cancer. This report describes the case of a 36-year-old male who developed left abdominal wall necrotizing fasciitis related to perforated gastric adenocarcinoma with signet-ring features. Signet-ring adenocarcinoma is associated with a more aggressive malignanc

Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is a rare yet potentially fatal soft-tissue, polymicrobial infection. Aggressive debridement of the fascia and overlying skin as well as antimicrobial coverage constitute the mainstay of management, often leaving large skin defects. However, we demonstrate in this paper a case of a young woman who developed NF after liposuction and was treated by fascial debridement with minimal skin excision. Skin preservation will reduce the morbidity and improve the final aesthetic outcome.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Necrotizing fasciitis is usually a polymicrobial infection and odontogenic source is usually the foci for infection in the neck region. Cervical necrotizing fasciitis due to Pseudomonas is a rare and potentially fatal complication in diabetic patients. The study highlights the importance of early intervention to improve the outcome of the patient.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of a 48-year female who presented with neck pain for 10 days. On further investigations, she had diabetic ketoacidosis, and a culture of the wound showed Pseudomonas. With appropriate

Cervical necrotizing fasciitis (CNF) is a rare infection that can quickly lead to devastating patient outcomes. Considering the vital importance of surrounding neck structures, rapid control of the infection is essential. Infection is most frequently polymicrobial and occurs in the adult patient in the context of certain medical comorbidities. Complications are typically limited to tissue destruction in the form of necrosis. There are no current reports describing CNF complicated by acute shock in the post-operative pediatric patient. Here, we present a pediatric case of CNF complicated by acu

BACKGROUND: Necrotizing fasciitis is a life-threatening soft-tissue infection, often characterized by soft-tissue destruction, systemic toxicity, and high mortality. No single laboratory value can diagnose necrotizing fasciitis; ultimately, necrotizing fasciitis is a clinical diagnosis and therefore presents a diagnostic dilemma for many physicians. The finger probe test is useful in confirming the diagnosis when imaging studies are unobtainable or nondiagnostic.
CASE REPORT: We present the case of a 70-year-old woman presenting nonverbal and obtunded with a soft-tissue infection of the right

Necrotizing fasciitis is a rare and life-threatening soft-tissue infection characterized by rapidly spreading inflammation and subsequent necrosis of the fascial planes and surrounding tissue. These children should be managed promptly with broad-spectrum antibiotics and possible surgical debridement. Here, we present a 5-week-old female infant who presented with fever and ulcer on right lower jaw. She had a sudden onset of darkening of the right lower jaw, which progressed to reddish discoloration, and then an ulcer developed in the middle of this area of discoloration. She had a tender swelli

Necrotizing fasciitis is a severe and progressive infection of deep soft tissues which results in destruction of the fascia and overlying subcutaneous fat. We report a case of a 45-year-old diabetic gentleman who initially presented with left shoulder pain, which was treated symptomatically. Upon representation, he had fever and the pain extended to his left upper back. There was a warm, firm and mildly tender purplish swelling on his mid to the left upper back. Blood tests revealed significantly elevated white cell counts and C-reactive protein. A CT thorax showed extensive soft tissue gas wi

Necrotizing fasciitis is an aggressive, life threatening soft tissue infection that requires high index of suspicion for diagnosis. Diagnosis is clinical with management including broad spectrum antibiotics and emergent operative debridement. The majority of cases are secondary to underlying medical processes, local tissue damage, abscess, or inciting procedure, with a paucity of data correlating causation with colon cancer. We describe the case of an 84-year-old man presenting with sepsis of unknown origin who was diagnosed with an atypical presentation of necrotizing fasciitis secondary to a

Necrotizing fasciitis is a devastating, rapidly pro-gressive soft tissue infection. We present an unusual case of Escherichia coli necrotizing fasciitis following renal transplant. The patient was a 50-year-old woman previously on long-term hemodialysis who presented with left thigh erythema adjacent to the site of a central venous catheter 5 days after renal transplant. The classical features of necrotizing fasciitis were initially absent, and, despite aggressive resuscitation and debridement, she did not survive. Monomicrobial E. coli necrotizing fasciitis is rare, especially in this cohort

Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is a rapidly progressive necrosis of the subcutaneous tissue and fascia, caused by bacterial infection. Usually presenting in the extremities, trunk, or perineum, it is uncommon in the craniofacial or cervical area. Cervicofacial NF is a potentially fatal infection, which should be managed with early detection and intervention. Most cases have a primary odontogenic source of infection, especially when the masticator space is involved. We report a case of masticator space NF that developed without odontogenic origin in a 78-year old female who was treated with prompt

Streptococcus pyogenes is a major cause of necrotizing fasciitis, a life-threatening subcutaneous soft-tissue infection. At the host infection site, the local environment and interactions between the host and bacteria have effects on bacterial gene expression profiles, while the gene expression pattern of S. pyogenes related to this disease remains unknown. In this study, we used a mouse model of necrotizing fasciitis and performed RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq) analysis of S. pyogenes M1T1 strain 5448 by isolating total RNA from infected hind limbs obtained at 24, 48, and 96 h postinfection. RNA-se
