PURPOSE: We report our experience with simultaneous resection of residual masses above and below the diaphragm in patients with metastatic nomseminomatous germ cell tumor (NSGCT) of the testis.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty-four patients underwent simultaneous resection of residual postchemotherapy masses in the retroperitoneum and chest, including three who also had radical neck dissection. CONTEXT: Hypospadias, cryptorchidism, testicular cancer, and low semen quality have been proposed as being parts of the testicular dysgenesis syndrome (TDS) hypothetically due to changes in the androgen-estrogen balance in utero. Estrogens and estrogen receptors (ERs) play a role in regulating testicular function. ERbeta contains two silent polymorphisms, RsaI (G1082A) and AluI (G1730A).

BACKGROUND: Primary retroperitoneal germ cell tumours usually present as a large abdominal mass in young men. The testes are normal on examination and ultrasonography but there are usually raised serum levels of human chorionic gonadotrophin and/or alpha-fetoprotein.
METHODS: Fourteen men (median age 33 years) with primary retroperitoneal germ cell tumours were treated by chemotherapy followed by surgical resection of the primary tumour and metastases via a thoracoabdominal extraperitoneal approach.

The occurrence of malignant lymphoma in the pineal region is very rare. We experienced a case of pineal region tumor that was treated by radiation and chemotherapy. After 1 year, the tumor metastasized to the cauda equina and was operated on. The diagnosis was malignant lymphoma. Although the incidence of intracranial malignant lymphoma is known to be on the increase recently, malignant lymphoma should be considered in the differential diagnosis of pineal region tumors.
