We present a previously unreported series of five cases of acute angle closure glaucoma associated with watching the Australia soap opera "Neighbours". Two cases were bilateral and associated with watching two episodes of "Neighbours" on the same day. The pathogenesis, and possible role of watching soap operas in the causation of primary angle closure glaucoma is discussed.

Ex-Press miniature implant surgery (Ex-Press implantation) is a new alternative anti-glaucoma surgery. It is clinically important to clarify its indications. Ex-Press implantation has been indicated appropriate in primary open-angle glaucoma and should not be used in narrow angle-closure glaucoma and in high risk of failed scarring cases. More evidence-based studies are still needed to convince the pros and cons in other conditions including aphakia or pseudo-phakia glaucoma, secondary open-angle glaucoma and refractory glaucoma.

BACKGROUND: To investigate the epidemiological characteristics of primary glaucoma in patients with retinal vein occlusion (RVO), providing evidence-based insights for clinical diagnosis and management.
METHODS: This retrospective study included patients diagnosed with RVO at the Department of Ophthalmology, Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, from January 2018 to April 2024. Primary glaucoma screening followed a two-step protocol: (1) preliminary evaluation using existing ophthalmic records; and (2) confirmatory testing with additional examinations for suspected cases.

Clinical trials of the hypotensive effect of 0.5% betoptic, an antiglaucoma drug manufactured by Alcon (USA), were carried out at three ophthalmologic hospitals. Similar results obtained in all the trials permit a conclusion on a high hypotensive efficacy of this drug in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma. The drug was well tolerated by the patients.
