The roots of two cultivars of Paeonia, namely Paeonia officinalis "Rubra Plena" and Paeonia "Pink Hawaiian Coral", have been extracted with chloroform. The composition of the lipid fraction, analyzed by GC-MS technique, revealed the absence of paeonol and the presence of phenol, benzoic acid, fatty acid-and some sterol-derivatives. We examined the association between body size and endometrial cancer risk and potential effect modification of other risk factors among 50,376 women in the Multiethnic Cohort Study. In a retrospective case review of inpatient and emergency department (ED) records during a 55-month period, 155 hospitalizations for Kawasaki syndrome (KS) were identified, of which 44 were seen in the ED. In 16 cases, KS was already suspected by their private physicians and confirmed in the ED by a KS specialist. In the remaining 28, patients presented initially to the ED. An outbreak of hepatitis A virus (HAV) infection in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) provided the opportunity to examine the duration of HAV excretion in infants and the mechanisms by which HAV epidemics are propagated in NICUs.
