Children presenting with Perthes' disease before their sixth birthday are considered to have a good prognosis. We describe 166 hips in children in this age group. The mean age at onset of the disease was 44 months (22 to 72). Mild forms (Catterall I and II) were treated conservatively and severe forms (Catterall III and IV) either conservatively or operatively. BACKGROUND: The posteromedial bowing of the tibia is a rare condition that is not yet known to be related to neurofibromatosis. The case of a three month-old boy with the tentative diagnosis of neurofibromatosis is described. He developed paraplegia due to an abdominal neuroblastoma at the age of 9 months. This led us to a review of the literature.
METHOD: 122 cases of posteromedial bowing of the tibia in 20 publications of the years 1949 - 2000 were analysed under special respect to gender, side of affection, shortening of the lower leg, treatment and possible cause.

INTRODUCTION: The purpose of our study was to retrospectively evaluate the clinical and radiological results of subtrochanteric fractures treated with a long gamma nail (LGN). The LGN has been the implant of choice at our level-1 trauma center since 1992.

Fifty-one extremities with ipsilateral tibial and femoral fractures are reviewed. Some children are included in the study. Most of the 47 patients are young men who have multiple injuries with high velocity trauma.
