Percutaneous versus Traditional Fixation for Fracture Patients with Ankylosing Spinal Disorders: A Meta-Analysis.

OBJECTIVE: With the advancement of surgical technology and the refinement of minimally invasive techniques, the emergence of novel technologies has exerted a discernible impact on conventional approaches. Currently, percutaneous internal fixation guided by X-ray fluoroscopy has been employed in patients with ankylosing spondylitis and diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis, presenting a challenge to traditional open surgery. Our objective was to conduct a comprehensive literature review aiming to evaluate the potential surgical advantages associated with percutaneous internal fixation. METH

Postoperative outcomes of robotic-assisted vs. laparoscopic pull-through surgery in pediatric Hirschsprung's disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Hirschsprung's disease (HSCR) is a congenital bowel disorder caused by absent enteric ganglion cells, often in neonates with intestinal obstruction. Minimally invasive surgical resection is the standard treatment. Robotic-assisted pull-through surgery (RAS) offers improved precision, but comparative data with laparoscopic-assisted surgery (LAS) is limited. This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated postoperative outcomes between RAS and LAS in pediatric HSCR. Literature search was performed in PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Science, Scopus, EMBASE, CINAHL, and Cochrane Library, following PRISM

Aggressive Versus Moderate Fluid Replacement for Acute Pancreatitis: An Updated Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

BACKGROUND: A conservative strategy is the primary modality of treatment for acute pancreatitis of which fluid replacement is an important component. Since the results regarding early aggressive versus moderate fluid replenishment for acute pancreatitis are inconsistent, we sought to compare outcomes between the two resuscitation strategies in our meta-analysis. METHODS: We searched MEDLINE (PubMed), Embase, the Cochrane Library, and ClinicalTrials.gov for all available randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing outcomes for patients treated with aggressive fluid replacement compared to mo

Pharmacoeconomic Evaluation of Costs of Myelomeningocele and Meningocele Treatment and Screening.

BACKGROUND: The prevention of myelomeningocele (MMC) and meningocele (MC) is a public health concern. A systematic review on economic factors associated with MMC and MC can help the policy makers to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of screening and treatment. To our knowledge, this is the first systematic review to provide up-to date pharmacoeconomic evidence of all economic studies present in literature on different aspects of MMC and MC. METHODS: We searched in the National Health Service Economic Evaluation Database (NHSEED), PubMed, Cost-effectiveness Analysis Registry (CEA Registry), Cent

Structure-based identification of potential natural compound inhibitors targeting bacterial cytoskeleton protein FtsZ from Acinetobacter baumannii by computational studies.

Acinetobacter baumannii is one of the multi-drug-resistant pathogens responsible for hospital-acquired infections reported worldwide. Clinically it is challenging to treat these pathogens as they have developed resistance against the existing class of antibiotics. Hence, there is an urgent need to develop a new class of antibiotics against these pathogens to prevent the spread of infections and mortality. In Acinetobacter baumannii, the filamentous temperature-sensitive mutant Z protein polymerizes at the imminent division site to form a Z-ring at the mid-point of the cell and act as a scaffol

Neostigmine for postoperative surgical urine retention: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Postoperative urinary retention (POUR) is a common surgical complication that can result in bladder overdistension, urinary tract infection and an extended hospital stay. Although neostigmine is an effective therapy for POUR, its usage remains controversial. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of neostigmine in improving POUR after surgery. PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library databases were reviewed. A methodical search approach was used for data extraction, while meta-analysis and bias analysis employed Review Manager 5.2 and MedCalc. Fourteen s

Transformative Deep Vein Thrombosis Prophylaxis With Sequential Compression Devices in the Care of Hospitalized Patients.

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a critical complication and concern in hospitalized patients due to its significant morbidity and mortality. Given the complex and multifaceted pathophysiology surrounding DVT formation, patients who have had surgical interventions faced acute or chronic trauma and prolonged immobility are at substantially high risk. Identifying these risk factors early is essential for early intervention and prophylaxis. Current standard-of-care prophylaxis for DVT includes pharmacological agents such as anticoagulants, and recently, there has been an increase in the use of mecha

A comparison of ear amputations replantation techniques.

BACKGROUND: The management of traumatic ear amputations remains a rare and difficult occurrence for surgeons. This is due to the fact that the chosen replantation technique must ensure the best vascular supply and the surrounding tissues have to be preserved as to not jeopardize a future auricular reconstruction in the event of replantation failure. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to review and synthesize the literature about the different surgical techniques described to date in the management of traumatic ear amputations (partial or total). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Relevant articles were searche
