Amyand's hernia is a condition of exceptional presentation in children and is defined by the presence of inflamed appendix inside a inguinal hernia. It may manifest clinically as acute scrotum, inguinal lymphadenitis or strangulated hernia. The treatment is surgical and although several approaches are described, appendectomy with herniotomy by inguinal approach is considered of choice.

Kikuchi's disease or histiocytic necrotising lymphadenitis is a distinct benign clinicopathologic entity which is to be distinguished from malignant conditions, especially lymphoma.We report a young woman with Kikuchi's disease presenting with cervical lymphadenopathy and mild hepatomegaly. CT and US findings are presented as well as a review of the pertinent literature.

We report the case history of a patient in whom we diagnosed purulent lymphadenitis due to Salmonella typhi, a late complication of a febris typhoidea that occurred 11 yr previously. We also review the literature concerning complications of Salmonella infections, and particularly discuss their hematogenous spread and lodgment.

A case of an HIV infected patient complicated with Penicillium marneffei and Rhodococcus equi infection is reported. He presented with chronic ulcer as pyoderma gangrenosum-like on his right calf and submandibular lymphadenitis as scrofuloderma-like. Penicillium marneffei and Rhodococcus equi were isolated from the ulcer and lymph node respectively.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the feasibility of detecting API2-MALT1 fusion gene transcript in paraffin-embedded tissue and its diagnostic value for pulmonary MALT lymphoma.
METHODS: Ten archival cases of pulmonary MALT lymphoma were selected and reviewed. Five archival cases of chronic lymphadenitis were used as negative control. Detection of the API2-MALT1 fusion transcript was performed by RT-PCR followed by second-round PCR using nested primers. beta-actin mRNA assay was utilized as an internal control in all samples.

A severe necrotizing granulomatous lymphadenitis caused by Sporothrix schenckii was diagnosed in a Pacific white-sided dolphin (Lagenorhynchus obliquidens) that had been in captivity for about 3 years. Histopathologic and electron microscopic studies, as well as fluorescent antibody techniques, were used to identify S schenckii as the etiologic agent.

We investigated a cluster of 5 plague cases; the patients included 4 with severe pharyngitis and submandibular lymphadenitis. These 4 case-patients had eaten raw camel liver. Yersinia pestis was isolated from bone marrow of the camel and from jirds (Meriones libycus) and fleas (Xenopsylla cheopis) captured at the camel corral.

We describe a case of the isolation of Bartonella quintana from the parotid gland of an apparently healthy man. Pathological examination showed intraparotid granulomatous abscessual lymphadenitis. Diagnosis was made on the basis of high titers of immunoglobulin G (IgG) and IgM antibodies and of culture isolation of a causative agent from parotid aspirate.
