CASE: A 62-year-old man presented with a posterolateral knee dislocation sustained in a motorcycle collision initially managed nonsurgically. His treatment was complicated by recurrent dislocation from noncompliance with bracing and weight-bearing restrictions and by comorbidities including peripheral artery disease, type 2 diabetes, and heavy smoking and drinking. He was treated with a multiplanar knee-spanning external fixator and patellar tendon repair without further ligamentous reconstruction. Fracture of bilateral capitulum humeri is a very rare injury. We present a case of a 38-year-old woman, affected by a shear fracture of bilateral capitellum after a motorcycle accident. This epidemiological study deals with 34 patients with friction burns sustained between January 2007 and January 2008. The age group most affected was that between 21 and 30 yr, with a male predominance. Road traffic accidents were the commonest cause of friction burns (31 patients) and the lower limb was body part most commonly affected. OBJECTIVE: The purpose was to identify the prevalence, causative factors, injury types, and associated injury patterns in multitrauma patients who sustained brachial plexus injuries.
METHODS: A retrospective review of a prospectively collected and computerized database and a chart review were performed.

CASE: A 46-year-old man suffered thoracic spine fracture dislocation in a motorcycle accident, presenting with complete lower extremity paralysis. Imaging revealed a T8 vertebral dislocation and complete spinal cord transection. Urgent surgery approximately 36 hours postinjury included posterior fixation, bone grafting, duraplasty, and spinal cord stump-plasty. Postoperatively, his neurological status remained unchanged. Minimal cerebrospinal fluid leakage resolved; no other major complications developed. He is stable and mobile through a wheelchair.
