Oculogyric crisis is a neurologic reaction characterized by bilateral dystonic elevation of visual gaze as well as hyperextension of the neck. This reaction is most commonly explained as an adverse effect of numerous medications, such as dopamine receptor blocking agents or neuroleptic medications and traditional antipsychotic or antiemetic drugs, such as prochlorperazine or metoclopramide. PURPOSE: The surgery complications in 215 orbital tumor cases were analyzed, in order to study the regularity and main affect factors of surgery complications.
METHODS: Depending on clinical information, related factors closely with surgery of orbital tumor were analyzed statistically.
RESULTS: Fifty-four kinds of various complications occurred within 45 cases (25.12%). Most complications were oculomotor apraxia (31.48%), and then were ptosis (22.22%), retrobulbar hemorrhage (18.51%), visual deterioration (12.96%), mydriasis (12.96%), injury of dura mater encephali (1.85%).

Ten subjects who could be reliably assessed as surface dyslexics were selected on the basis of a large test battery. Eye movements in non-linguistic and linguistic tasks were studied in these subjects. Stability of fixation on a stationary stimulus was examined. BACKGROUND: Ocular motor apraxia (OMA) in childhood is a poorly understood condition involving a failure of horizontal saccades. OMA is thought to be rare but the literature indicates wide clinical associations. The prognosis for spontaneous improvement of Brown's syndrome has not yet been clarified. The present longitudinal long-term study comprised 10 patients with idiopathic Brown's syndrome arising or noticed during the first or second year of life. They were followed for an average of 13 years during which each had a mean of 9 examinations. Spontaneous improvement occurred in 9 of the patients, 3 of whom were cured, obtaining normal motility. Ocular motor apraxia is characterized by a deficiency in the generation of voluntary saccadic eye movements despite the presence of spontaneous saccades. We report two cases of isolated ocular motor apraxia, both in children, that developed following cardiac surgery. Electro-oculography was done in one case and showed slow saccades and decreased pursuit gain. The authors review the neuroanatomic and neurophysiologic features relevant to supranuclear gaze mechanisms.
