Structural characteristics and thermostability of human haemoglobin molecules, modified by reopolyglukine and dialdehyddextrane (DAD) have been studied. Haemoglobin mainly preserves its oxyform when including reopolyglukine in mixture (the mol. ratio of protein to dextrane was 1:4), and disordering of polypeptide chains and increasing the volume of haemoproteids molecules are noticed. We report a case of cardiovascular collapse after gelafundin infusion, a commonly used colloid. Risk factors for such a reaction and suggested alternative are reviewed. Awareness of this reaction is highlighted in view of its increasing popularity.

Possible methods of systemic approach to transfusiology as an independent science have been considered. It has been noted that, despite a great interrelation with other branches of science, transfusiology has its theoretical basis, and therefore the methods of other sciences, when used for transfusiologic purposes, acquire a definite tendency and specificity. As an example, the authors describe the main features of the systemic approach to controlling blood and circulation with the aim of selecting optimal tactics and strategy.

Improving hemocompatibility is of major interest in extracorporeal circulation (ECC). Changes in numbers and functions of the blood cells during ECC have been ascribed to the nonphysiologic materials of the circuit.
