["The Invisibles" project, meeting and collaboration of Public Health and volunteering. The influenza vaccination experience to promote the health of the socially vulnerable and economically disadvantaged population].

Migration and the current European socioeconomic conditions necessitate an evaluation/assessment, as detailed as possible, of the spread of seasonal infectious diseases in order to reduce inequalities in the healthcare system. The "Scuola di Formazione in Medicina Generale" of Lazio, in collaboration with the Community of Sant'Egidio of Rome, organized an influenza/flu vaccination campaign for homeless people, migrants and the poor in order to check their health conditions and prevent the spread of the most common infectious diseases. People were asked to fill in an anamnestic form, including

Examining the impact of 11 long-standing health conditions on health-related quality of life using the EQ-5D in a general population sample.

OBJECTIVES: Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) measures have been increasingly used in economic evaluations for policy guidance. We investigate the impact of 11 self-reported long-standing health conditions on HRQoL using the EQ-5D in a UK sample. METHODS: We used data from 13,955 patients in the South Yorkshire Cohort study collected between 2010 and 2012 containing the EQ-5D, a preference-based measure. Ordinary least squares (OLS), Tobit and two-part regression analyses were undertaken to estimate the impact of 11 long-standing health conditions on HRQoL at the individual level. RESUL

Stereotypes do not always apply: findings from a survey of the health behaviours of mental health consumers compared with the general population in New Zealand.

AIM: Research suggests that people with mental illness frequently have worse physical health than the general population. Our study sought to investigate the health behaviours of mental health consumers in New Zealand, as we hoped that by clearly describing this group more targeted healthcare could be provided. METHOD: We surveyed 404 adult mental health consumers about their: height and weight, fruit and vegetable intake, exercise activity, smoking, alcohol and drug use. RESULTS: We found that mental health consumers abstained from alcohol more often than those from the general population s

Survey on Mental Health Status in Iranian Population Aged 15 and Above One Year after the Outbreak of COVID-19 Disease: A Population-Based Study.

BACKGROUND: Mental disorders are the most common health problems that affect different population groups. According to the national survey in 2015 based on General Health Questionnaire-28 (GHQ-28), 23.44% of Iranians older than 15 years were suspected of having a mental disorder. The study aimed to determine the mental health status of the population over 15 years of age in the Islamic Republic of Iran, one year after the outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020. METHODS: The population-based study was performed on 24584 individuals over 15 years of age in Iran between December and February, 2020. The GH

Longitudinal study on the health status of children in a rural Tanzanian community: comparison of community-based clinical examinations, the diseases seen at village health posts and the perception of health problems by the population.

Standardised household interviews among adults and children, open-ended questionnaires, and clinical examinations administered during cross-sectional health status surveys, as well as the registers of village health posts (VHP), were used to assess the pattern of health problems of a rural community in southeastern Tanzania, and their results compared. All four approaches gave very similar results for the two major health problems (fever/malaria and abdominal pain or discomfort) which were mentioned by both children and adults. The parasitological data from the cross-sectional surveys also rev

Living alone and mental health: parallel analyses in UK longitudinal population surveys and electronic health records prior to and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

BACKGROUND: People who live alone experience greater levels of mental illness; however, it is unclear whether the COVID-19 pandemic had a disproportionately negative impact on this demographic. OBJECTIVE: To describe the mental health gap between those who live alone and with others in the UK prior to and during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: Self-reported psychological distress and life satisfaction in 10 prospective longitudinal population surveys (LPSs) assessed in the nearest pre-pandemic sweep and three periods during the pandemic. Recorded diagnosis of common and severe mental illness

Correlates of Self-Reported Medicinal Cannabis Use for Physical Health, Mental Health, and Sleep-Related Conditions in a Population-Based Survey of Canadian Youth.

OBJECTIVE: Medicinal cannabis use (MCU) among youth is correlated with frequent cannabis use and multiple substance use and health-related indicators. This study examined whether correlates of self-reported MCU among youth varied as a function of the primary health condition for which cannabis is used. METHOD: Data were drawn from the 2017 Canadian Tobacco, Alcohol, and Drugs Survey. Youth (ages 15-24) who reported past-year cannabis use were included in these analyses. Regression analyses (controlling for age and sex) compared youth reporting only nonmedicinal cannabis use (NMCU only, n = 2,

National indicators of health literacy: ability to understand health information and to engage actively with healthcare providers - a population-based survey among Danish adults.

BACKGROUND: Health literacy is a multidimensional concept covering a range of cognitive and social skills necessary for participation in health care. Knowledge of health literacy levels in general populations and how health literacy levels impacts on social health inequity is lacking. The primary aim of this study was to perform a population-based assessment of dimensions of health literacy related to understanding health information and to engaging with healthcare providers. Secondly, the aim was to examine associations between socio-economic characteristics with these dimensions of health li

Retrospective baseline measurement of self-reported health status and health-related quality of life versus population norms in the evaluation of post-injury losses.

BACKGROUND: Owing to the difficulty in prospectively measuring pre-injury health status and health-related quality of life (HRQL) in an injured cohort, population norms or retrospective baseline scores are often used as comparators for evaluating post-injury losses. However, there has been little discussion in the literature or research into the soundness of these approaches for this purpose. OBJECTIVES: To investigate the appropriateness of the retrospectively measured baseline health status and HRQL in an injured population for the purpose of evaluating post-injury losses. METHODS: A cohor

Identifying salient behavioral health access and social determinant of health factors among a Latino population with uncontrolled diabetes living on the U.S.-Mexico border.

BACKGROUND: Valid measures of behavioral health access and social determinants of health (SDOH) can inform health promotion, programming, and strategies to address identified gaps. Existing SDOH screening tools and domains were not developed using data from low-income Latino populations or community-based interventions, which may limit their relevance for these purposes. AIM/OBJECTIVES: This study sought to identify salient constructs of behavioral health and SDOH based on factor analysis among a low-income, underinsured Latino population with type 2 diabetes. METHODOLOGY: We gathered data f

Population-based analysis of sociodemographic predictors, health-related quality of life and health service use associated with obstructive sleep apnoea and insomnia in Australia.

Although there is growing recognition of the effects of living with sleep disorders and the important role of primary care in their identification and management, studies indicate that the detection of sleep apnoea (OSA) and insomnia may still be low. This large representative community-based study (n=2977 adults) used logistic regression models to examine predictors of self-reported OSA and current insomnia and linear regression models to examine the association of these sleep conditions with both mental and physical components of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and health service use.

Evaluation of human biomonitoring data in a health risk based context: An updated analysis of population level data from the Canadian Health Measures Survey.

In order to characterize exposure of the Canadian population to environmental chemicals, a human biomonitoring component has been included in the Canadian Health Measures Survey (CHMS). This nationally-representative survey, launched in 2007 by the Government of Canada, has measured over 250 chemicals in approximately 30,000 Canadians during the last decade. The capacity to interpret these data at the population level in a health risk context is gradually improving with the development of biomonitoring screening values, such as biomonitoring equivalents (BE) and human biomonitoring (HBM) value

Health Utilities Index Mark 3 scores for major chronic conditions: Population norms for Canada based on the 2013 and 2014 Canadian Community Health Survey.

BACKGROUND: Utility scores are frequently used as preference weights when estimating quality-adjusted life years within cost-utility analyses or health-adjusted life expectancies. Though previous Canadian estimates for specific chronic conditions have been produced, these may no longer reflect current patient populations. DATA AND METHODS: Data from the 2013 and 2014 Canadian Community Health Survey were used to provide Canadian utility score norms for 17 chronic conditions. Utility scores were estimated using the Health Utilities Index Mark 3 instrument and were reported as weighted average

Economic evaluation of population-level dementia prevention strategies in China: informing policy and public health action.

INTRODUCTION: While it has been postulated that population-based strategies targeting modifiable dementia risk factors are cost effective in high-income settings, their health and economic impact in China remains unclear. METHODS: A Markov model evaluated five interventions: salt substitution, smoke-free legislation, increased tobacco tax, sugar-sweetened beverage tax, and alcohol tax. Outcomes included dementia cases, deaths averted, life years gained, and lifetime cost-savings, assessed from a societal perspective over an infinite time horizon. Subgroup and sensitivity analyses were perform
