UNLABELLED: Therapeutic success in neovascular glaucoma with conservative and surgical methods is sadly inadequate. Based on the encouraging results we have obtained with transconjunctival cyclocryothermy in primary glaucoma and with peripheral cryopexy (transconjunctival cryotherapy), we applied these two methods in combination to treat neovascular glaucoma.
PATIENTS: A total of 25 eyes in 23 patients were treated with the above method. The average preoperative bulbar pressure was 43 mmHg.
RESULTS: The highest average reduction of pressure was obtained in weeks 2-4 after treatment (20 mmHg)

Echographic control after pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) and internal tamponade of the retina with silikon oil (SO) is necessary in case of opaque optical media (bulous keratopathy, bleeding and exsudation within anterior chamber, complicated cataract). In interpretation of echographic image some difficulties or errors may be caused by physical properties of SO, as for example reduced speed of propagation of ultrasound in this media, ultrasound absorption coefficient, acoustic impedance and reflection coefficient.

We present a patient with isolated angiomatosis retinae, in whom ruthenium irradiation was administered for treatment of a secondary serous retinal detachment. Prior to therapy, we measured an increased vessel diameter. Following treatment, decreasing venous vessel diameter was documented three-dimensionally utilizing laser scanning tomography. The changes in vessel height (87%) exceeded the changes in width (49%). von Hippel-Lindau disease is a phakomatosis that is characterized by multiple angiomatous hamartomas located in the retina, central nervous system (CNS),and visceral organs. Retinal angiomas causing blindness and CNS angiomas causing death are familiar consequences of this disease. In certain cases, early detection and treatment of these lesions may prevent their disastrous effects.
