Delayed puberty, especially in boys, is a common presentation in paediatrics. Recent advances have improved our understanding of the neuroendocrine, genetic and environmental factors controlling pubertal development, and hence inform the pathophysiology of delayed puberty. The discovery of kisspeptin signalling through its receptor identified neuroendocrine mechanisms controlling the gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GnRH) pulse generator at the onset of puberty. Genetic mechanisms from single gene mutations to single nucleotide polymorphism associated with delayed puberty are being identified.

OBJECTIVE: Investigation of the effects of experimental cryptorchidism formed in prepubertal rats during the postpubertal and adult periods.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: The abdominal cavities of 20 rats in the control group were just opened and closed without any further surgical procedure. The testicles of 20 rats in the experimental group were fixed to the anterolateral wall of the abdominal cavity under general anesthesia. Oral administration of 17alpha-methyltestosterone (MT) was used to induce masculinization of sexually undifferentiated muskellunge, Esox masquinongy. Three groups of muskellunge (mean weight, 2.5 +/- 0.6 g) were submitted to MT treatment (15 mg of MT/kg) for 60 days. An additional one group was used as a control (hormone-free diet). Food was distributed over a 10-h period by using automatic belt feeders. Blood was sampled in both control and treated fish at different intervals during and after feeding: before (0 h), at 3 h, 6 h, and cessation of feeding (10 h), and after a fast of 22 h (32 h).

The objectives of this study were to determine the incidence of precocious puberty and effect of exposure to a bull on the incidence of precocious puberty in beef heifers. The experiment was conducted using 120 heifers during 1990 and 1991. Two trials were conducted with two different lines of chickens to determine whether a gene for sex-linked imperfect albinism (sal-s) affected various egg production traits. To assess the role of prolactin (PRL) in the puberty onset and the ovarian aromatase activity, hyper- and hypoprolactinemic conditions were induced by treating chronically prepubertal female rats with PRL and bromocriptine, respectively.
