Understanding Mind-Body Experience from the Perspective of Interoceptive Awareness: A 21-Day Embodied Practice Intervention.

This qualitative study examined how a 21-day integrated program fosters interoceptive awareness and mind-body integration among urban adults in mainland China (n = 11). The intervention combined daily nasal breathing regulation, spontaneous mandala making, and descriptive journaling, complemented by weekly group sharing. Using a cultural-psychological lens, we investigated how an inward-turning tradition in Chinese culture shapes embodied experience and meaning-making. Applying Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis to diaries, drawings, and focus-group data, we identified three interrelated

[Repair and reconstruction of facial organ injuries: a perfect fit of structure and function].

The repair of facial organ injuries is a complex field in plastic surgery that involves both functional recovery and morphological reconstruction. The therapeutic goal has evolved from traditional wound closure to the harmonious integration of form and function. To achieve this new objective, surgical plans need to combine various flap techniques, autologous and allogeneic tissue transplantation approaches, and incorporate emerging methods such as digital design and biomaterials. Although the repair outcomes of facial organ injuries have improved compared to the past, challenges remain, includ

Pediatric Dental Education in China: Current Status, Challenges, and Pathways to Improvement-A Narrative Review.

Pediatric dental diseases, notably dental caries, malocclusion, and dental trauma, remain a significant public health challenge in China, exerting considerable impact on children's oral and general health. Despite growing societal demand for pediatric dental care, China faces a critical shortage and uneven geographic distribution of pediatric dentists, alongside persistent urban-rural disparities in access to oral health services. These challenges underscore the urgent need for educational reforms, workforce policy adjustments, and assessment of the strengths and limitations of recent training

Affective priming of body and facial expressions in Parkinson's disease.

Patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) often experience impairments in emotion processing. Previous literature has highlighted deficits in facial expression recognition and body movement processing, including social signals. However, to date, the integration of facial and bodily expressions has been investigated in healthy populations, but not in individuals with PD. The present study assessed the reciprocal influence between facial and body emotion recognition by using subliminal priming paradigms in a sample of PD patients and in healthy controls (HC). Participants completed both a Face-Body

Integrated Management of Skin NTDs-Lessons Learned from Existing Practice and Field Research.

Integration of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) into the public health agenda has been a priority in global health for the last decade. Because a number of these diseases share not only the geographical distribution, but also a common feature which is skin involvement, bringing together a sub-group of 'skin NTDs' is one way forward to promote further integration among NTDs. With these diseases, which include leprosy, Buruli ulcer, yaws, mycetoma, lymphatic filariasis, and leishmaniasis, patients may be left with life-long deformities and disabilities when diagnosis and treatment are delayed.

Trauma and psychosis: The mediating role of self-concept clarity and dissociation.

Childhood trauma (CT) and psychosis may be associated. Drawing on the dissociation and social psychological literature, the current study examined the mediating role of structural aspects of self in explaining the relationship between childhood trauma and psychosis. Twenty-nine individuals with psychosis were compared with 31 healthy volunteers regarding childhood trauma, dissociation and self-concept clarity (SCC). High rates of maltreatment were found in the psychosis sample. Additionally, clinical participants reported more dissociation and less self-concept clarity. Mediational analyses we

Latency--a reappraisal.

This paper discusses the specific metapsychology and developmental tasks of the latency period. It offers a Kleinian view of the phase and compares it with other current psychoanalytic theories. The emphasis is on the importance of ego and superego growth and integration during latency resulting in better contact with both external and internal reality. Character formation, social integration and learning are discussed as the specific developmental tasks of the period. Freud's original formulation that the latency period is a consequence of the resolution of the Oedipus complex is evaluated in…

Behind the 'Social mask': a phenomenological study of loneliness and social disconnection in women with Eating disorders.

Eating disorders (EDs) are chronic psychiatric conditions characterized by significant impairments in psychosocial functioning. This study utilizes an interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) to explore the lived experiences of social functioning and loneliness among women diagnosed with Eating Disorders (n = 8). Semi-structured interviews focused on early interpersonal patterns, experiences of social interactions, and the role of social support in recovery. Four superordinate themes emerged: Roots of Impaired Social Functioning, highlighting adverse childhood experiences; The Worsening

Effects of a combined physical activity and educational drama intervention on core symptoms and physical fitness in children with ASD.

This pilot study evaluated the effects of a 12-week combined physical activity and educational drama intervention on core symptoms and physical fitness in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Twenty children were randomly assigned to an experimental group (n = 10), receiving the combined intervention, or a control group (n = 10), receiving conventional physical activity. Outcomes were assessed using the Repetitive Behavior Scale-Revised (RBS-R), Social Responsiveness Scale-2 (SRS-2), and a physical fitness test battery. The results indicated that both interventions significantly improved re

Structured decision-making as a framework to incorporate social equity into conservation decisions.

Many conservation challenges require negotiating trade-offs between the needs of different actors. Global frameworks such as the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework explicitly call for diverse participation and social equity in conservation decision-making. Achieving this requires integrating equity into both decisions and decision-making processes. Despite shifts toward strengthening social equity, practical guidance for incorporating equity into conservation decision-making processes remains limited. We argue that structured decision-making (SDM), an organized approach designed fo

Socially shared emotions shape the activity of the medial prefrontal cortex during inference of others' emotional states.

The medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) weighs options during decision-making, but its role in inferring competing emotional states and how this process changes with age, remain unclear. We recorded brain activity with functional MRI while 20 young and 40 older adults inferred the emotions of actors shown in ecological yet controlled social interactions. Socially shared representations about the timing, accuracy, and uncertainty of emotional inferences were defined using response distributions from an independent sample viewing the same scenes. mPFC activity is sensitive to emotional inference and

The Challenge of Meaningful Comparison: Assessing the Relation Between Social Comparison Orientation and Meaning in Life.

Social comparison processes play a central role in social cognition, but their relation to meaning in life remains unclear. We conducted an integrative analysis of three online studies with American, Indian, Peruvian, and French participants. After harmonizing the study-specific datasets, we examined whether social comparison orientation was associated with search for meaning and presence of meaning. Higher social comparison orientation was consistently associated with greater search for meaning, including after adjustment for age, gender, country, and presence of meaning. This association was

Brief report: individual social-multi-modal intervention for HFASD.

This research is the first part of a 2-year cognitive-behavioral-ecological (CB-E) social skills training for high-functioning children with autism spectrum disorder (HFASD). Current study examined efficacy of an individual CB-E intervention in facilitating children's dyadic interactions (immediately after treatment and 4 months later) and their social cognition capabilities (e.g., emotion understanding and recognition, social problem solving). Participants were 19 HFASD children aged 7 years and 7 months to 11 years and 6 months. Results demonstrated improvement in children's social cognition

Beyond social tinkering: Toward a mechanistic and multilevel theory of cultural complexity.

Chater and Christiansen argue that cultural complexity arises through social "tinkering." While compelling, this framework remains mechanistically underspecified. Integrating recent empirical and theoretical advances, this commentary proposes that cultural complexity emerges from interactions among transmission dynamics, cognitive constraints, social network structure, and environmental pressures and calls for a formalized, testable multilevel theory.

[Specific characteristics of clinics for sex offenders and the role of nurses].

Perpetrators of sexual violence have very diverse clinical profiles and psychiatric comorbidities are common. Treatment is most often provided within a judicial framework, which complicates the therapeutic alliance but at the same time enables care to be provided throughout the process with evolving objectives. Nurses play a key role in this process, in clinical and psychosocial assessment, psychotherapy, and the implementation of drug treatments, as well as in coordination with the various stakeholders (prison integration and probation services, social workers, other caregivers). The aim is t

Perspective on self-regulatory capacity and the vagus nerve: Have we wandered too far?

The concept of self regulation has been of interest to psychologists for decades, and physiological mechanisms that underpin self regulatory ability are of clinical interest. Two mechanistic theories have been proposed: the polyvagal theory (PVT) and neurovisceral integration model (NVIM), each assuming vagus nerve activity to be a readout of self regulatory capacity. This paper critically examines the extant research that identifies purported associations between self-regulation and cardiac activity, confusion around constructs, misleading claims about the relationship between HF-HRV/RSA and

Addressing the social needs of individuals with food allergy and celiac disease during COVID-19: A new practice model for sustained social care.

COVID-19 has led to high rates of food insecurity. Food insecure patients with food allergy and celiac disease are especially vulnerable during the pandemic when foods become limited. This paper describes a practice innovation implemented by a community-based organization, Food Equality Initiative (FEI), whose mission is improving health and ending hunger among individuals with food allergy and celiac disease. FEI responded to the pandemic by converting their in-person pantries to a contactless delivery of safe foods. The practice innovation is discussed in relation to three system-level eleme

[ Symptom Severity and the Role of Friendship in Children at a Child Guidance Center from Parents' Point of View].

By means of the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) it was assessed how much children who are attended to a child guidance center suffer from behavior problems and emotional distress. Furthermore, the interaction between straining and supporting influences was examined. Results show that symptom severity lies in the range of clinical significance. Children of divorced parents show more internalizing as well as externalizing problems than children of nuclear families. High social integration is correlated with lower psychic symptomatic - yet, this finding was dependent on family situation: While fr…

New Therapeutic Options for Autism Spectrum Disorder: Experimental Evidences.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is characterized by impairment in two behavioral domains: social interaction/communication together with the presence of stereotyped behaviors and restricted interests. The heterogeneity in the phenotype among patients and the complex etiology of the disorder have long impeded the advancement of the development of successful pharmacotherapies. However, in the recent years, the integration of findings of multiple levels of research, from human genetics to mouse models, have made considerable progress towards the understanding of ASD pathophysiology, allowing the d
