This study examines the psychological impacts of only-child status and bereavement among older adults. Utilizing 2014-2020 China Longitudinal Aging Social Survey (CLASS) data, the research assessed depression via the CESD-9 and social networks through the Lubben Social Network Scale-6. Findings reveal that while having an only child initially correlates with reduced depressive symptoms, losing that child significantly exacerbates mental health challenges and hinders social adaptation. In a sample of 53 at-risk pregnant adolescents, the relationship between their perceptions of maternal acceptance-rejection in childhood and the nature of their social supports was examined. Perception of acceptance-rejection was significantly correlated with both frequency of interaction with social network members and expectations of their future support. Young dogs were maintained in isolation from other dogs and under varying degrees of exposure to an alien species (mature rabbits). Parametric observations indicate that an interspecific social attachment develops during the initial hours of co-habitation.
