Interest has grown in centering Parkinson's disease (PD) care provision on the welfare of the patient with PD. By putting the welfare of patients first, this patient-centric focus tends to subordinate the welfare of others including clinicians and carers. A possible solution is person-centered care. Rather than remove the spotlight from the patients, it widens that light to illuminate moral interests of all healthcare participants as persons whose welfare is interdependent. It assumes that unwellness among clinicians, for example, can impact the quality of the PD care they provide, such that c

BACKGROUND: The Australian policy on homelessness identifies participation in structured activities as the first step towards social inclusion and increasing the likelihood of permanently leaving a homeless lifestyle. Art interventions increase interpersonal function and social participation and provide a means of expression and transformation with people who are homeless.
AIM: This study explores the value of an art programme provided by a non-government agency for homeless adults.
METHOD: Qualitative methods including participant observation and purposive interviews were analysed inductive

BACKGROUND: Single-sided deafness (SSD) has functional, psychological, and social consequences. Interventions for adults with SSD include hearing aids and auditory implants. Benefits and harms (outcome domains) of these interventions are until now reported inconsistently in clinical trials. Inconsistency in reporting outcome measures prevents meaningful comparisons or syntheses of trial results. The Core Rehabilitation Outcome Set for Single-Sided Deafness (CROSSSD) international initiative used structured communication techniques to achieve consensus among healthcare users and professionals w

BACKGROUND: Ubiquitous, smart technology has the potential to assist humans in numerous ways, including with health and social care. COVID-19 has notably hastened the move to remotely delivering many health services. A variety of stakeholders are involved in the process of developing technology. Where stakeholders are research participants, this poses practical and ethical challenges, particularly if the research is conducted in people's homes. Researchers must observe prima facie ethical obligations linked to participants' interests in having their autonomy and privacy respected.

BACKGROUND: Although effective and recommended by guidelines worldwide, Cardiac Rehabilitation (CR) remains scarce and underutilized. CR implementation has taken place in middle-income countries, but the progress is influenced by both positive and negative factors that remain underexplored. This study identified the barriers and facilitators of CR in a middle-income country, specifically China.
METHODS: An exploratory qualitative study was conducted using semi-structured interviews.
RESULTS: Fifteen CR stakeholders were interviewed. According to the interviewees, the delivery of CR is impede

In dialysis, the inclusion of patient-reported outcomes is relatively new. However, the genesis of patient-reported outcomes as an essential component to measuring the quality of care began over 50 years ago. Although much progress has been made, there are still substantial efforts needed to reach true patient-centeredness in health care quality assessment. Patient-centeredness is an iterative, collaborative process of shared decision-making among stakeholders to identify, address, and resolve issues of importance to patients. This shift to putting patients at the forefront of decision-making

Homecare models can be effective mechanisms in securing wellbeing and ageing-in-place goals prevalent in health policy agendas. However, the relevance and utility of these models for those living in socially and environmentally insecure conditions has rarely been considered. This is marked by an assumption of in-situ care delivery in private dwellings, and the absence of such groups from homecare development processes. This study aims to harnesses the experiences and preferences of older people in homelessness (OH), older Irish Travellers (OT), and professional stakeholders in an evidence-base

Normothermic regional perfusion (NRP) is a promising technology to improve organ transplantation outcomes by reversing ischemic injury caused by controlled donation after circulatory determination of death. However, it has not yet been implemented in Canada due to ethical questions. These issues must be resolved to preserve public trust in organ donation and transplantation. This qualitative, constructivist grounded theory study sought to understand how those most impacted by NRP perceived the ethical implications. We interviewed 29 participants across stakeholder groups of donor families, org

Randomised controlled trials commonly use surrogate endpoints to substitute for a target outcome (outcome of direct interest and relevance to trial participants, clinicians, and other stakeholders—eg, all cause mortality) to improve their efficiency (through shorter trial duration, reduced sample size, and thus lower research costs), or for ethical or practical reasons. But reliance on surrogate endpoints can increase the uncertainty of an intervention’s treatment effect and potential failure to provide adequate information on intervention harms, which has led to calls for improved reporting o

The success of the Australian COVID-19 vaccination strategy rested on access to primary healthcare. People experiencing or at risk of homelessness are less likely to access primary healthcare services. Therefore, leaders in homeless health service delivery in Sydney identified the need to develop a vaccine hub specifically for this vulnerable population. The aim of this study was to develop an evidenced based model of care to underpin the Vaccine Hub and optimize access to vaccination for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. A mixed methods study was conducted that included intervie

We aim to report the co-design of the implementation strategy of a telehealth-enabled cardiac rehabilitation model of care in rural and remote areas of Australia. The goal of this model of care is to increase cardiac rehabilitation attendance and completion by country patients with cardiovascular diseases. We hypothesise that a model of care co-designed with stakeholders will address patients' needs and preferences and increase participation. We applied the Model for Large Scale Knowledge Translation and engaged with patients, clinicians and health service managers across six local health netwo

Despite rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) for medical imaging, widespread clinical adoption remains limited. In March 2025, the Academy for Radiology & Biomedical Imaging Research convened a cross-sector roundtable to examine operational and structural challenges in AI development and implementation. Researchers, department leaders, government representatives, and industry executives participated in a structured two-stage discussion using the AI lifecycle and a simplified failure modes and effects analysis (sFMEA) framework. In the first stage, attendees examined each phase of

Rheumatic heart disease (RHD) requires long-term secondary antibiotic prophylaxis to prevent disease progression, yet sustained patient engagement remains challenging in many low- and middle-income countries. Within Uganda's first integrated decentralized RHD control program, Accelerating Delivery of Rheumatic Heart Disease Preventive Services in Uganda (ADUNU), we applied a human-centered design (HCD) approach to co-develop strategies for improving engagement in care. Using two Group Level Assessment sessions (with n = 43 stakeholders) and three design focus group discussions (n = 23 stakehol

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE: Recurrent acute pancreatitis (RAP) and chronic pancreatitis (CP) lack effective therapies. There is no consensus or guidance on which endpoints or outcome measures should be used in clinical trials. This study aimed to develop a core outcome set aligned with both patient and provider priorities for RAP and CP. Utilizing the Outcomes Measures in Rheumatology (OMERACT) framework, a multi-stakeholder approach was adopted to identify and prioritize outcome domains.
METHODS: A two-round Delphi poll was conducted among four stakeholder groups: adult patients, parents and pedia

BACKGROUND: There is a scarcity of information regarding the most important outcomes for research in neonatal units in low-resource settings. Identification of important outcomes by different stakeholder groups would inform the development of a core outcome set (COS) for use in neonatal research.
OBJECTIVE: To determine the perceptions and opinions of parents of newborn babies regarding what outcomes were most important to them in order to contribute towards development of a COS for neonatal research in sub-Saharan Africa.
METHODS: Semistructured interviews were undertaken with parents, most

BACKGROUND: Epidural corticosteroid injections are a common treatment for radicular pain caused by intervertebral disc herniations, spinal stenosis, and other disorders. Although rare, catastrophic neurologic injuries, including stroke and spinal cord injury, have occurred with these injections.
METHODS: A collaboration was undertaken between the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Safe Use Initiative, an expert multidisciplinary working group, and 13 specialty stakeholder societies. The goal of this collaboration was to review the existing evidence regarding neurologic complications associated

Donor conception research supports open-identity donor programmes and disclosure to donor-conceived offspring. This study examines Australian donors', recipients' and donor-conceived offspring's views on the importance of different types of biographical information about the donor. Participants (125 recipients, 39 donors (known, identity-release and anonymous), 23 donor-conceived offspring) completed an online or paper self-administered anonymous questionnaire. Individuals rated the importance of 15 types of biographical information and subsequently chose the three they deemed most important.
