TB is a common and serious global infection that is spread exclusively from person to person. The initial infection in most healthy people leads to LTBI 95% of the time, but untreated individuals have a 5% to 10% lifetime risk for reactivating their infection to develop highly infectious cavitary pulmonary TB or extrapulmonary disease. Following primary infection progressive disease is more likely to develop in children younger than 5 years old or those who are immunocompromised, particularly those with HIV infection. The diagnosis of TB in most of the world depends on the presence of a clinic

RATIONALE: Tuberculous aortic pseudoaneurysm associated with vertebral tuberculosis is a rare disease but with very high mortality. We review the literature and find 19 reports with 22 patients. Here we report three cases with vertebral tuberculosis, who also have tuberculous pseudoaneurysm of the aorta. These patients were treated by different methods. We try to analyze the epidemiology, pathogenesis, presentation, and management of this disease to find the best treatment.
PATIENT CONCERNS: The patients presented with different symptoms such as pain (chest, abdominal or back), fever, blood v

Since the end of the nineteenth century, the wide dissemination of Pott's disease has ignited debates about which should be the ideal route to perform ventrolateral decompression of the dorsal spine in case of paraplegia due to spinal cord compression in tuberculosis spondylitis. It was immediately clear that the optimal approach should be the one minimizing the surgical manipulation on both neural and extraneural structures while optimizing the exposure and surgical maneuverability on the target area. The first attempt was reported by Victor Auguste Menard in 1894, who described, for the firs

Although tuberculosis is an uncommon cause of spinal arachnoiditis, it needs to be differentiated from other causes of arachnoiditis because it is a treatable disease. Myelography, which is the imaging modality of choice for the chronic adhesive stage of tuberculous arachnoiditis, usually reveals irregularity of the thecal sac, nodularity and thickening of nerve roots, clumping of roots to each other or to the thecal sac, or CSF block. Recently Gd-diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid enhanced MRI has been found to be useful for the active phase of tuberculous infection, effectively demonstratin

In this study, we report the results of the experience of the Rheumatology Department of Cocody University Hospital in the management of the cervical spinal tuberculosis in Abidjan area. This was a retrospective study of 26 cases collected over a 7 year period (January 2006 to December 2013). The objective of this work was to illustrate the epidemiological, clinical and radiological profile of the cervical localization of tuberculosis in our practice. The prevalence of cervical disease was 4.87%. The average age of our patients was 48.27 years, with a slight male predominance (60.7%). The dura

SETTING: Neuromyelitis optica (NMO), or Devic's disease, is a rare acute inflammatory disease characterised by demyelination affecting the spinal cord and optic nerves. Although NMO usually occurs in isolation, the association between NMO and active pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) has been suggested by a number of case reports and series.
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the possible association between NMO and TB.
DESIGN: A retrospective case-control study. We included adult patients admitted to our institution with a nal diagnosis of NMO based on accepted criteria between January 1995 and February 20

Almost all ancient civilizations described tuberculous bacilli in their old scripts, and these bacteria have been found in prehistoric skeletal remains. The clinical availability of specific antitubercular drugs was the most important breakthrough in managing spinal tuberculosis. Any attempt at surgical excision of the disease prior to the antitubercular era met with serious complications, dissemination of disease and high mortality (nearly 50%). Antitubercular drugs markedly improved the results of management by operative treatment. Excellent healing of disease was also observed in those pati
