BACKGROUND: Vaginitis, an infection of the lower genital tract in women, is known to be triggered by the overgrowth of the vagina's naturally occurring microorganisms.
OBJECTIVE: This study looked at the prevalence of Candida spp. and age-related disparities amongst women presenting with vaginitis at the Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) clinic in a tertiary hospital in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.
METHODS: One hundred high vaginal swabs were collected from pregnant and non-pregnant women and examined microscopically and microbiologically.

Pyometra is a rare condition involving the accumulation of purulent material within the uterine cavity, typically affecting postmenopausal women. Clinical presentation varies and may be silent, but can include fever, abdominal pain, and vaginal discharge. In this case, we report a 62-year-old woman presenting with prolonged constitutional symptoms and fever, ultimately diagnosed with a large hematopyometra secondary to endometrial adenocarcinoma. This case emphasizes the need to consider gynecological causes in elderly female patients with persistent systemic symptoms.

A young woman in her 20s presented with fever, abdominal pain and malodourous vaginal discharge. She was found to be in septic shock, in the setting of a recent medical abortion with subsequent intrauterine device placement. Her blood cultures grew Fusobacterium necrophorum Despite appropriate antibiotic therapy, the fever failed to defervesce. Subsequent evaluation revealed septic thrombophlebitis of the right gonadal vein and branches of the right iliac vein. She improved with a prolonged course of targeted antimicrobial therapy.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the public data of hysterectomies performed in the only health system in the city of São Paulo between 2008 and 2018.
METHODS: The following public health system data were extracted and analyzed: age, technique, number of surgeries, mortality during hospitalization, length of stay in the establishment (days), and amounts paid by the public network.
RESULTS: A total of 20,119 procedures were analyzed. The most prevalent procedure was total hysterectomy (43.2%), followed by vaginal hysterectomy (26.7%), subtotal hysterectomy (24.3%), and laparoscopic hysterectomy (5.8%).

BACKGROUND: Bacterial vaginosis (BV) increases HIV risk and adverse reproductive outcomes. Standard-of-care (SOC) for BV are antibiotics; however, cure rates are low.
