The aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of various production parameters on the formation and particle size of poly (3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) PHBV particles prepared by the emulsification-diffusion technique. Viral membrane proteins play an important role in the assembly and disassembly of enveloped viruses. Oligomerization and proteolytic cleavage events are involved in controlling the functions of these proteins during virus entry and release. The uricosuric properties of acetazolamide were investigated in order to elucidate the relationship between changes in proximal tubular sodium reabsorption and urate excretion in man. Acetazolamide produced a modest uricosuric response which was not suppressible by pyrazinamide. Alkalinization of the urine with sodium bicarbonate elicited an even smaller increment in the urate clearance. The interaction of K+ and NH+4 on the basolateral membrane of cultured rat inner medullary collecting duct cells (IMCD) was explored using 86Rb+ as a K+ congener. Ouabain addition decreased Rb+ uptake to 22.0 +/- 2.6% of control. Possible ouabain-sensitive NH+4 transport was therefore explored. Replacement of N-methyl-D-glucamine chloride with NH4Cl or KCl decreased both total and ouabain-sensitive Rb+ uptake.
