Electrophoretic analysis of murine anterior pituitary extract revealed five major proteins of Mr 13,000-18,000 (designated P13, P14, P16, P17, and P18 according to Mr), three of which, P16, P17, and P18, were markedly influenced by estradiol benzoate and perphenazine in a manner similar to that of growth hormone, and two, P13 and P14, to that of prolactin. The existence of a positive feedback of estrogen on the gonadotrophin-releasing mechanism at birth, was tested in the female guinea pig. Estradiol benzoate (100 ng during the first 5 days of life) or HCG (100 RU during the first 5 days of life) induced a true precocious puberty, with similar characteristics to the control animals (60% of the animals ovulated at puberty age: corpora lutea present at the ovaries). The uterus was larger in ovulating than in nonovulating animals. Reserpine (2.5 mg/kg) on 15, 17 and 19 days of age did not modify the precocious puberty induced by estradiol at birth.

Lysinuric protein intolerance (LPI) is a rare inherited metabolic disease, caused by defective transport of dibasic amino acids. Failure to thrive, hepatosplenomegaly, hematological abnormalities, and hyperammonemic crisis are major clinical features. However, there has been no reported Korean patient with LPI as of yet. METHODS: In a prospective study cases of fever reporting to the local military hospital from July to October 2002 were examined clinically, investigated and categorised as scrub typhus when Weil Felix readings were above 1:160.
