Rapid and real-time detection of trace BPA based on solution-gated graphene field-effect transistor by cerium-doped ZIF-8 carbon material.

Bisphenol A (BPA), as a synthetic organic pollutant, threatened the human body through food packaging, drinking water, and even skin contact. It could accumulate in the body and cause toxicological damage. Therefore, it was important to develop efficient and accurate BPA detection sensors. This study prepared cerium-doped ZIF-8 carbon materials (Ce@ZIF8/C) through doping bimetals on carbon-based metal-organic framework (MOF). The carbon material exhibited more mesopores and defect structures, and Ce effectively improved its electrochemical catalytic performance. The detection concentration ran

Genome-Wide CRISPR Screens Identify Genome Stability as Regulator of the Cellular Sensitivity to Environmentally Relevant Bisphenol A Exposure.

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a prevalent chemical used in the production of plastics. While adverse effects on the reproductive system have been documented, more recent studies also associated BPA exposure with carcinogenesis as well as genomic instability. However, these studies were generally performed using BPA concentrations much higher than those observed in the serum or urine of the general population, making their relevance unclear. To address this, we report here an unbiased genetic study to identify mechanisms responding to levels of BPA exposure relevant to plastic manufacturers. We performe

A comprehensive investigation into the effect of bisphenol A on the expression of drug-metabolizing enzymes: Consequences for endogenous metabolites and xenobiotic pharmacokinetics.

Bisphenol A, a known endocrine disruptor, is a pervasive environmental contaminant because of its widespread use in everyday consumer products. It has been linked to numerous health hazards and shown to modulate the drug-metabolizing enzymes. There is a significant disparity in reported results in the literature, chiefly because of a focus on mRNA expression or substrate activity assays rather than on protein expression. The present study uses mass spectrometry-based targeted proteomics to investigate modulation in the expression of drug-metabolizing enzymes following environmentally relevant

Activation of the MKK4/7-JNK-c-Jun axis mediates bisphenol F-induced neurodegeneration and behavioural alteration in adult zebrafish.

Bisphenol F (BPF), widely utilised as an industrial substitute for bisphenol A (BPA), has recently surfaced as a global environmental pollutant owing to its chemical stability, vast application, and rising identification throughout several ecological compartments. Notwithstanding its reputation as a safer alternative, emerging data indicates that BPF may produce similar or even more pronounced toxicological consequences. This study found that adult zebrafish exposed to environmentally relevant concentrations of BPF displayed significant anxiety-like behaviour, diminished cognitive performance,

Insights into bisphenol A exposure and male fertility: The role of vitamin D in modulating oxidative stress, inflammation, apoptosis, spermatogenesis, and the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis.

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a well-known endocrine disruptor commonly found in materials such as polycarbonate plastics, food packaging, toothpaste, and medical devices. This study aimed to investigate the potential protective effects of vitamin D against BPA-induced oxidative stress, inflammation, apoptosis, and disturbances in spermatogenesis, as well as the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis. Hence, Wistar rats were treated with BPA (25 mg/kg) or with vitamin D (400 IU/day) for 30 days. The results indicated that vitamin D supplementation reduced testicular damage caused by BPA by decreasin

Network toxicology and molecular docking techniques to explore the mechanism of bisphenol A on obesity.

The study investigates how bisphenol A (BPA) exposure may lead to obesity (OB) by identifying molecular mechanisms and suggests a new research approach for examining the health effects of chemical toxins. Researchers identified 237 potential targets associated with BPA exposure and OB using CTD, STITCH, DrugBank, GeneCards, and OMIM databases. Analysis with STRING and Cytoscape revealed 10 key targets, including INS, IL-6, AKT1, and PPARG. Enrichment analysis via the DAVID database indicated that these targets are primarily involved in PI3K-Akt and Insulin signaling pathways. These findings in

Bisphenol A in the Urine: Association with Urinary Creatinine, Impaired Kidney Function, Use of Plastic Food and Beverage Storage Products but Not with Serum Anti-Müllerian Hormone in Ovarian Malignancies.

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a high-production-volume industrial chemical and component of commonly used plastic products. However, it is also an endocrine-disrupting chemical that can negatively affect human health. It is not yet known whether it is associated with the development of epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC), a severe and highly fatal human disease. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine the concentrations of BPA in the urine of women with EOC or epithelial borderline ovarian tumors (EBOTs) using gas chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS) and find their possible asso

Bisphenol A exacerbates osteoblast ferroptosis via the p53/SLC7A11 axis: A novel mechanistic insight into environmental osteoporosis pathogenesis.

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a ubiquitous industrial pollutant, but its role in osteoporosis is not fully understood. This paper combines network toxicology, experimental, and molecular docking validation to illuminate how BPA disrupts bone metabolism. We identified 142 BPA related proteins linked to osteoporosis, narrowing to 6 core targets by protein-protein interaction analysis. Molecular docking confirmed strong binding of BPA to these targets. In vitro and in vivo experiments showed that BPA suppressed osteoblast viability and differentiation. Quantitative analyses further revealed strong negativ

Melatonin reverses bisphenol A-induced toxicity in granulosa cells: Restoration of FSHR and connexin 43 expression.

OBJECTIVE: Bisphenol A (BPA) is an estrogen-like endocrine-disrupting chemical commonly found in various daily consumer products. It causes female reproductive disorders by interfering with endocrine signaling. Normal folliculogenesis, oocyte maturation, ovulation, and luteal growth/involution rely on the gap junctional intercellular communication between granulosa cells (GCs) and oocytes. Connexin 43 (Cx43) is a key gap junction protein in GCs. The expression of Cx43 in GCs is regulated by follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) at every stage of folliculogenesis. Melatonin, which exerts anti-infl

BPP disrupts spermatogenesis via mitochondrial-ER stress-mediated autophagic flux blockade in mice.

Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), particularly bisphenol A (BPA) and its analogs, have been extensively linked to male reproductive toxicity. However, the biological effects of bisphenol P (BPP), an increasingly used BPA substitute, remain poorly characterized. Through integrated in vivo and in vitro investigations, this study systematically evaluated the effects of chronic BPP exposure on male reproductive function in mice. Our findings demonstrate that BPP significantly impaired spermatogenesis and sperm quality, and suppressed serum testosterone and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) l

Postnatal maternal care moderates the effects of prenatal bisphenol exposure on offspring neurodevelopmental, behavioral, and transcriptomic outcomes.

Bisphenols (BP), including BPA and "BPA-free" structural analogs, are commonly used plasticizers that are present in many plastics and are known endocrine disrupting chemicals. Prenatal exposure to BPA has been associated with negative neurodevelopmental and behavioral outcomes in children and in rodent models. Prenatal BPA exposure has also been shown to impair postnatal maternal care provisioning, which can also affect offspring neurodevelopment and behavior. However, there is limited knowledge regarding the biological effects of prenatal exposure to bisphenols other than BPA and the interpl
