Cervical leiomyomas in pregnancy: report of 17 cases.

AIM: To analyse the management strategies and delivery outcomes of women with cervical leiomyomas in pregnancy. METHODS: We retrospectively analysed the pregnancy outcomes of 17 women with cervical leiomyomas. The outcome measures assessed included the volume of blood loss at delivery, need for blood transfusion, intra- and post-operative complications and length of hospital stay. RESULTS: The mean diameter of the leiomyomas was 10.4 ± 7.2 cm, with a range of 3-30 cm. The mean blood loss was 697 ± 394 mL (range of 350-4200 mL). Six women (35.3%) required a blood transfusion. The mean duratio

3D-MRI based morphometrics of subtalar ligaments: Insights for the assessment of ankle sprains.

BACKGROUND: Subtalar ligament injuries occur in 10-25% of lateral ankle sprains (LAS) but remain underdiagnosed, partly because their radiological anatomy is insufficiently defined. PURPOSE: This anatomo-radiological study aimed to systematically characterize the MRI appearance and anatomical morphology of the principal subtalar ligaments. STUDY DESIGN: Descriptive, single-center anatomo-radiological reference study (Level IV). METHODS: Seventeen patients underwent 3-Tesla 3D-MRI of the contralateral asymptomatic ankle after lateral ankle ligament repair. The inferior extensor retinaculum (

Cervical myelopathy screening using in-shoe inertial measurement unit sensors and machine learning focusing on gait disturbance.

PURPOSE: Cervical myelopathy (CM) often presents with gait disturbances, which can lead to falls and spinal cord injury. As the presence of gait disturbances negatively affects postoperative improvement in patients with CM, early detection of gait disturbances is crucial. However, current gait analysis methods require specialisation, limiting their feasibility for screening. This study aimed to perform gait analysis in patients with CM using wearable in-shoe inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensors and to develop a screening system using machine learning. METHODS: This study included 26 patient

Comparing individually tailored to disorder-specific internet-based cognitive-behavioural therapy: benchmarking study.

Introduction The cervical spine is a highly mobile segment of the spinal column, liable to a variety of diseases and susceptible to trauma. It is a complex region where many vital structures lie in close proximity. Lateral mass screw fixation has become the method of choice in stabilizing subaxial cervical spine among other posterior cervical fixation techniques whenever the posterior elements are absent or compromised. Objective This study examined cervical specimens of cadavers and cervical computed tomography (CT) scans to minimize as much as possible complications of cervical lateral mass

Anatomical considerations for appropriate mini-plate positioning in open-door laminoplasty to avoid plate impingement and screw facet violation.

This study aimed to describe a safe zone for mini-plate positioning that can avoid instrument-related complications in laminoplasty. Fifty-one patients who underwent laminoplasty and were followed up for at least 1 year were retrospectively reviewed. The posterior surface length and inferior pole angle of the lateral mass were measured at each level using computed tomography. The safe zone was defined based on these measurements. Incidences of screw facet violation and plate impingement were recorded. Patient-reported outcome measures were compared between the appropriate position (AP) and ina

The optimal transarticular c1-2 screw length and the location of the hypoglossal nerve.

BACKGROUND: Injury to the hypoglossal nerve is a complication associated with transarticular C1-2 screw placement. This complication can be caused by a misdirected or too long screw. Little is known about the optimal screw length and its relationship to the hypoglossal nerve. METHODS: Twenty cervical spine specimens were used to study the optimal length of the transarticular C1-2 screw. Using the Magerl technique, a 3.0 mm drill bit was inserted into the C2 lateral mass, passing through the C1-2 facet joint and penetrating the upper portion of the ventral cortex of the lateral mass of the atl

[Pathomechanism of juvenile muscular atrophy of unilateral upper extremity (Hirayama's disease)--extensibility and asymmetry of the cervical posterior dural wall].

We performed myelography in chin-up position during neck flexion in 20 patients with juvenile muscular atrophy of unilateral upper extremity, and we also performed CT-myelography in rotational position during neck flexion in 15 of them. In this disease, in which posterior lower cervical dural wall shifts anteriorly and compresses the spinal cord during neck flexion, we found that the anterior dural shift and cord compression became lessened by making chin-up without changing the position of neck flexion. By measuring the posterior dural length from foramen magnum to C6 vertebra on the profile

Morphometric evaluation of nucleolar organizer regions in cervical intraepithelial neoplasia.

The objective of this study was to determine whether some morphometric parameters and two different methods of counting AgNOR dots were correlated with the grade of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia. Thirty uterine cervix biopsies (8 cases of cervicitis, 9 CIN I, CIN II and 6 CIN III) were studied. Two methods were used to count AgNOR dots. The first one consisted of counting the number of epithelial cells with 1, 2, 3, 4, or more dots. The second method, based on a computer analysis system, consisted of counting the total number of dots in 100 cells, without considering the number of dots pe

The case for T2 pedicle subtraction osteotomy in the surgical treatment of rigid cervicothoracic deformity.

OBJECTIVE: Rigid cervicothoracic kyphotic deformity (CTKD) remains a difficult pathology to treat, especially in the setting of prior cervical instrumentation and fusion. CTKD may result in chronic neck pain, difficulty maintaining horizontal gaze, and myelopathy. Prior studies have advocated for the use of C7 or T1 pedicle subtraction osteotomies (PSOs). However, these surgeries are fraught with danger and, most significantly, place the C7, C8, and/or T1 nerve roots at risk. METHODS: The authors retrospectively reviewed their experience with performing T2 PSO for the correction of rigid CTKD
