PURPOSE: This paper describes how Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network (LVHHN), a large tertiary care urban hospital, used discussion suppers as a means for community engagement designed to lead to community health improvement. An overview of the implementation of the project is described.

The seriousness of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP), despite being a reasonably common and potentially lethal disease, often is under estimated by physicians and patients alike. CAP results in more than 10 million visits to physicians, 64 million days of restricted activity, and 600,000 hospitalizations. This article discusses the epidemiology and bacterial causes of CAP in immunocompetent adults and the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus.

Intercoronary communication is a rare condition in which there is an open-ended circulation with bidirectional blood flow between two coronary arteries. This report highlights a case of an intercoronary connection between the right coronary and circumflex arteries with unidirectional flow. Selective injection of the right coronary artery showed retrograde filling only of the circumflex artery, but left coronary injection did not fill the right coronary artery.

High prevalences of intestinal amoebiasis are commonly reported by microscopy in Ethiopia. In order to confirm the actual occurrence of Entamoeba histolytica we collected 108 stool specimens from different hospitals & health centers from patients in whom haematophagous trophozoites were believed to be found. We report a case of a subhepatic cystic mass diagnosed in utero by antenatal ultrasonography (US) at 15 weeks' gestation which subsequently proved to be a communicating duodenal duplication. In this male foetus, the differential diagnosis was choledochal cyst, congenital biliary atresia, foregut duplication or omentum cyst. Neonatal US examination lead to a diagnosis of duodenal duplication, also confirmed by barium gastrointestinal series. He was operated on day 8 and recovered uneventfully. We discuss the accuracy of antenatal US in the diagnosis of such right upper quadrant cystic masses. N

Duplications of the oesophagus are rare congenital abnormalities and rarely communicate with the oesophageal lumen. They are commonly associated with other congenital malformations, such as spinal deformities, congenital heart disease, vertebral anomalies, malrotation of the bowel, Meckel's diverticulum. During a percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy, performed because of a neurological dysphagia, the endoscopy revealed a very rare case of a 26-year old man affected by Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome, with an asymptomatic oesophageal duplication that communicated proximally and distally.

OBJECTIVE: Social phobia has in recent years been recognized as a considerable public health concern. This paper presents an overview of community studies that have estimated the prevalence of social phobia, its subtypes, and specific social fears in the adult general population. Sociodemographic findings are also summarized.

"Drug abuse" provides many unique challenges to the research community. Some of these involve fundamental epidemiologic issues, such as measuring the extent of the problem, identifying and assessing changes in patterns and trends, detecting emerging "drugs of abuse", characterizing vulnerable populations and determining health and social consequences.
