Keratoconjunctivitis sicca is the major cause of chronic or recurrent conjunctivitis in dogs. The diagnosis of KCS is often delayed or mistaken for allergic or bacterial conjunctivitis and inappropriate or insufficient treatment leads to progressive corneal scarring and blindness in many dogs. The cause of KCS in dogs has not been proven, but evidence supports an immune-mediated etiology for the majority of cases. PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Antihistamines exert pharmacologic effects by binding to four histamine receptors (H1-H4) at different affinities, producing variable effects depending on the receptor they predominantly bind to. This review's purpose is to determine the relative potency of antihistamines by comparing their binding affinities to these receptors. Studies on binding affinities of antihistamines to histamine receptors were reviewed and the dissociation constant for inhibitor binding (Ki) analyzed to determine the most and least potent antihistamine for each receptor.

At eight dermatological clinics, a total of 2146 patients were tested between May 1990 and December 1991 to determine the significance of the preservative benzalkonium chloride in inducing allergic contact dermatitis and to evaluate recommendations for patch testing. BACKGROUND: Allergic rhinitis affects a significant proportion of the European population. Few surveys have investigated this disorder in Greek adults. Our objective was to describe the characteristics of patients with allergic rhinitis in an adult outpatient clinic in Thessaloniki, Greece.
METHODS: We studied the medical records of adult patients referred to a Clinical Immunology outpatient clinic from 2001 to 2007. The diagnostic procedure was not changed during the whole study period, including the same questionnaire used at the time of diagnosis, skin prick tests, and serum specific IgE.

Cromolyn is a white crystalline powder which is poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Its therapeutic value lies in its functions as an inhaled or topically applied agent.
