A systematic review of factors influencing attitudes towards and intention to use the long-distance caregiving technologies for older adults.

PURPOSE: Long-distance caregiving (LDC) technologies play a significant role in enabling distant care and facilitating living-alone older adults to keep socially connected. However, there is scarce research exploring the older adults' attitudes towards and intention to use such technologies. This paper is based on a systematic review of existing literature to explore the multifarious factors influencing independent community-living older adults' attitudes towards and intention to use LDC technologies. METHODS: Articles published in English between 2006 and 2020 were reviewed by searching elec

Cognitive reshaping and resurgence of humanness: restructuring the medical education continuum in the era of generative AI.

BACKGROUND: Generative artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming medical education. While AI enhances personalized learning, its integration raises concerns regarding "cognitive outsourcing," automation bias, and erosion of independent clinical reasoning. AIM & METHODS: This narrative review critically evaluates the cognitive and educational impacts of generative AI and proposes structural realignment across the medical education continuum. We synthesized literature from major databases (PubMed, Scopus) focusing on AI's intersection with clinical reasoning and humanistic competenci

Ethical guidelines in fetal medicine.

The ethical guidelines in the clinical practice of fetal medicine are discussed, largely from the point of view of early prenatal diagnosis. The discussion concentrates on several specific aspects including counselling, good procedure, prenatal screening, disclosure of results including fetal sex, experimentation and assessment of new technologies and health education. The emphasis is placed on the importance of informed consent, choice and understanding on the part of the patient, and the professional competence of the doctor and other professionals she may meet.

Health literacy assessment in adults with neurofibromatosis: electronic and short-form measurement using FCCHL and Health LiTT.

Determining health literacy level is an important prerequisite for effective patient education. We assessed multiple dimensions of health literacy and sociodemographic predictors of health literacy in patients with neurofibromatosis. In 86 individuals with a confirmed diagnosis of neurofibromatosis 1 (NF1), neurofibromatosis 2 (NF2), or schwannomatosis, we assessed health literacy status using two HL tools-the adapted functional, communicative, and critical health literacy scale (adapted FCCHL) and health literacy assessment using talking touchscreen technology (Health LiTT). Factor analyses o

Ecological momentary assessment for chronic pain in fibromyalgia using a smartphone: a randomized crossover study.

BACKGROUND: Daily diaries are a useful way of measuring fluctuations in pain-related symptoms. However, traditional diaries do not assure the gathering of data in real time, not solving the problem of retrospective assessment. Ecological momentary assessment (EMA) by means of electronic diaries helps to improve repeated assessment. However, it is important to test its feasibility in specific populations in order to reach a wider number of people who could benefit from these procedures. METHODS: The present study compares the compliance and acceptability of an electronic diary running on a sma

Beyond access: the intersecting role of AAC, literacy, and technology.

As the digital landscape continues to evolve, access to communication, literacy, and technology have become essential for citizenship, community inclusion, and social and emotional well-being. This paper reflects my personal experience on these topics, exploring the challenges faced by people who lack access to robust language-based expressive augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) tools. Drawing on my background as an educator, I discuss the implications of failing to provide such access, highlighting its effect on literacy skills and social inclusion. I also argue that many AAC tec
