Palmoplantar pustulosis treated with oral rinse using ozone nanobubble water: A case series.

Neither the etiology nor a reliable treatment for palmoplantar pustulosis has been clearly established. Ozone nanobubble (ONB) water, which is treated with nanosized ozone gas particles and has strong antimicrobial activity, has attracted attention as a future therapeutic option for palmoplantar pustulosis. Oral rinsing, particularly in the periodontal areas, with 10 to 20 mL ONB water for a couple of minutes per night, was prescribed to seven palmoplantar pustulosis patients, comprising five female and two male patients, for 6 months. Skin lesions were observed to be completely cured within a

Risperidone-induced bruise-like rash in a child.

Adverse cutaneous reactions are rarely seen with antipsychotics. Exanthematous eruptions, skin pigmentation changes, photosensitivity, urticaria, and pruritus have been previously reported. We report a bruise-like rash in a 4-year-old boy with risperidone use. The rash disappeared on discontinuation and then reappeared after re-initiating the medication. Clinicians should be aware of a bruise-like skin rash as a rare adverse effect of risperidone. This is especially important for pediatric cases where physical abuse may be suspected. SIMILAR CASES PUBLISHED: None.

[Acute fever with rash, necrosis, and bullae in both lower extremities in a 12-year-old girl].

A girl, aged 12 years, was admitted due to fever and rash for 3 days. The child developed recurrent high fever and rash on both lower extremities 3 days before, and the rash on left lower extremity quickly merged into a patch within 24 hours, with hemorrhage and necrosis in black and purple, large vesicles, and blisters in the center. Laboratory examination showed a reduction in platelet count and significant increases in fibrinogen and D-dimer during the course of the disease. The child was diagnosed with purpura flulminans. She was given meropenem combined with linezolid for anti-infection,

Diffuse skin rash in tropical areas: Dengue fever or COVID-19?

There have been several clinical manifestations associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection since 2019, including dermatological signs and symptoms. In this article, the authors report a case of a previously healthy patient with COVID-19 who was mistakenly diagnosed with dengue fever due to a skin rash. By the time the patient's investigation was initiated, Joinville (Santa Catarina, Brazil) had approximately 5,000 confirmed cases of dengue fever and 1,700 cases of COVID-19 in 2020. Thus, the authors emphasize that in endemic regions such as Brazil, the two diseases must be considered until proven ot

[Comment on article: “Zika, afebrile disease?”].

We read with great interest the publication entitled “Zika, afebrile disease?” from del Carpio-Orantes and González-Clemente,1 who mentioned that afebrile illness might be seen in Zika virus infection and concluded that “…we point out that symptoms such as nonpurulent conjunctivitis or rash could be reliable criteria in the absence of fever for the probable diagnosis of Zika, which invariably requires serological confirmation, even though the latter is not always available.” We would like to share ideas and experience on this issue. In our setting, Indochina, the Zika virus infection is also e

The rash that becomes an erythroderma.

Erythroderma is a dermatologic emergency with potentially serious consequences. Several diseases with different etiologies characteristically appear as erythroderma. Depending on the age groups, congenital ichthyosiform disorders, infections, preexisting dermatoses, drug eruptions, and internal malignancies commonly present with, or progress to, erythroderma. The course, prognosis, and management strategies also vary depending on the cause of erythroderma; hence, an accurate diagnosis is essential in minimizing associated morbidity and mortality. The generalized erythema and scaling often obsc

Eruptive milia during isotretinoin therapy.

Isotretinoin (13-cis-retinoic acid) is a synthetic vitamin A derivative that is effective in the treatment of recalcitrant, nodulocystic acne. To our knowledge, there are no reports in the medical literature of milia as a side effect of isotretinoin. We report a case of eruptive facial milia in the setting of isotretinoin treatment for acne.

Koebner's Phenomenon in Childhood Henoch-Schönlein Purpura: A Report of Two Cases.

Koebner's phenomenon occurs rarely in connection with Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP). We report two children with HSP who developed Koebner's phenomenon on the second day after the onset of rash. The first was an 11-year-old girl with rheumatic heart disease who presented with abdominal pain for 1 month and subsequently developed rash and nephritis. The second patient was a 7-year-old girl who presented with rash and polyarthritis. To the best of our knowledge, Koebner's phenomenon in childhood HSP has not been reported.

Eperisone hydrochloride-induced maculopapular rash.

Here, we report a case of a 30-year-old male who was prescribed eperisone hydrochloride for body pain and loose stools after which he developed severe maculopapular rash. Eperisone hydrochloride is an analgesic and antispastic drug used for spastic diseases such as spastic paralysis in cerebrovascular diseases, cervical spondylosis, and periarthritis. The drug is marketed in most of the Asian countries including India, but it is not licensed. Studies show the history of hypersensitivity in other countries, but this is the first reported case in India.
