Nanoscale Study on Noninvasive Prevention of Dental Erosion of Enamel by Silver Diamine Fluoride.

Here, we aimed to demonstrate the efficacy of silver diamine fluoride (SDF) in halting dental erosion caused by dietary selection and offer a potential explanation for the underlying mechanism. We investigated the surface chemical and mechanical characteristics of human tooth enamel when exposed to Coca-Cola from 10 s to 1 h, with and without the topical treatment of SDF. We analyzed the mechanical properties by measuring the enamel surface roughness and elastic modulus using atomic force microscopy and the surface chemical composition through x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Fourier trans

Evaluation of the impact of fluoride in drinking water and tea on the enamel of deciduous and permanent teeth.

BACKGROUND: Systemic fluoride intake is predominantly derived from drinking water and tea. It's been noted that water and tea containing fluoride, within the boundaries set by the World Health Organization, can lessen the prevalence of dental caries. A review of the literature did not uncover any study that has examined the impact of fluoride in bottled drinking water and tea on enamel of deciduous and permanent teeth. Thus, we assessed the effects of fluoride present in seven different brands of bottled water from distinct geographical regions of Turkey, and a type of tea produced and package

A quantitative evaluation of the effects of potassium iodide on the clinical properties of silver diamine fluoride.

Silver diamine fluoride (SDF), an effective topical fluoride agent for arresting caries, has a reputation for staining the teeth. Potassium iodide (KI) has been reported to minimize such staining, but doubts remain over its long-term efficacy and potential adverse influence on the effectiveness of SDF. This in vitro study used quantitative evaluation of color changes and the silver and fluoride release of treated tooth specimens to determine the effect of KI on the staining and caries-arresting properties of SDF. Twenty-one noncarious premolars were sectioned buccolingually to create 42 tooth

18F-Sodium Fluoride PET/CT in Assessing Valvular Heart and Atherosclerotic Diseases.

Aortic valve stenosis is the most common valvular disease in Western countries, while atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease is the foremost cause of death and disability worldwide. Valve degeneration and atherosclerosis are mediated by inflammation and calcification and inevitably progress over time. Computed tomography can visualise the later stages of macroscopic calcification but fails to assess the early stages of microcalcification and cannot differentiate active from burnt out disease states. Molecular imaging has the ability to provide complementary information related to disease activ

A regio- and stereoselective Heck-Matsuda process for construction of γ-aryl allylsulfonyl fluorides.

A highly efficient regio- and stereoselective Heck-Matsuda method was developed employing aryl diazoniums and allylsulfonyl fluorides for the construction of a class of novel γ-aryl allylsulfonyl fluorides in the presence of Pd(OAc)2 and PPh3. The method features excellent regio- and stereoselectivity (up to 100% E-selectivity), broad substrate scope and mild reaction conditions. Further application of γ-aryl allylsulfonyl fluoride in SuFEx reactions was achieved to provide their corresponding sulfonates and sulfonamides in excellent yields.

Quinoline based thiosemicarbazones as colorimetric chemosensors for fluoride and cyanide ions and DFT studies.

High toxicity and extensive accessibility of fluoride and cyanide ions in diverse environmental media encouraged attention for scheming well-organized probes for their detection. Keeping in mind we have designed and synthesized thiosemicarbazone-based chemosensors RB-1, RB-2 and RB-3 for the detection of fluoride and cyanide ions. The structural elucidation of the synthesized chemosensors is done by employing different analytical techniques including nuclear magnetic resonance and electronic absorption specrtoscopies. Admirable detection limit, binding constant and fast response time (2 s) to

Rapid Access to N-Protected Sulfonimidoyl Fluorides: Divergent Synthesis of Sulfonamides and Sulfonimidamides.

Herein we report a practical and efficient copper-catalyzed approach for the conversion of various arenediazonium salts to the corresponding N-protected sulfonimidoyl fluorides. This operationally simple protocol tolerates a wide range of functional groups and can be applied to the late-stage modification of complex bioactive molecules. Furthermore, pharmaceutically important primary sulfonamides and sulfonimidamides derived from these valuable N-protected sulfonimidoyl fluoride units were prepared in minimal synthetic steps.

A systematic review and meta-analysis of the association between fluoride exposure and neurological disorders.

Different studies have suggested that fluoride is related to neurological disorders in children and adolescents, but clinical evidences of which neurological parameters associated to fluoride exposure are, in fact, still controversial. In this way, this systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to show if there is an association between fluoride exposure from different sources, doses and neurological disorders. Terms related to "Humans"; "Central nervous system"; "Fluorides"; and "Neurologic manifestations" were searched in a systematic way on PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Lilacs, Cochrane a

Let-7c-5p Regulates CyclinD1 in Fluoride-Mediated Osteoblast Proliferation and Activation.

Endemic fluorosis is caused by the intake of high environmental fluoride, which causes dental and skeletal fluorosis. Osteoblast proliferation and activation is closely related to skeletal fluorosis and is tightly regulated by the cell cycle. Several biological processes, including bone metabolism and osteoblast proliferation and activation, are regulated by a type of noncoding RNA called microRNAs (miRNAs). However, the understanding of miRNA functions in skeletal fluorosis is limited. Based on our previous miRNA sequencing results and bioinformatics analysis, we investigated the function of

Ex vivo 18F-fluoride uptake and hydroxyapatite deposition in human coronary atherosclerosis.

Early microcalcification is a feature of coronary plaques with an increased propensity to rupture and to cause acute coronary syndromes. In this ex vivo imaging study of coronary artery specimens, the non-invasive imaging radiotracer, 18F-fluoride, was highly selective for hydroxyapatite deposition in atherosclerotic coronary plaque. Specifically, coronary 18F-fluoride uptake had a high signal to noise ratio compared with surrounding myocardium that makes it feasible to identify coronary mineralisation activity. Areas of 18F-fluoride uptake are associated with osteopontin, an inflammation-asso

Electrospun ZnO/Poly(Vinylidene Fluoride-Trifluoroethylene) Scaffolds for Lung Tissue Engineering.

Due to the morbidity and lethality of pulmonary diseases, new biomaterials and scaffolds are needed to support the regeneration of lung tissues, while ideally providing protective effects against inflammation and microbial aggression. In this study, we investigated the potential of nanocomposites of poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-trifluoroethylene) [P(VDF-TrFE)] incorporating zinc oxide (ZnO), in the form of electrospun fiber meshes for lung tissue engineering. We focused on their anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and mechanoelectrical character according to different fiber mesh textures (i.e., c
