OBJECTIVE: To assess the relative safety of 0.25% miconazole based on the amount absorbed through the skin of infants with diaper dermatitis after multiple applications.

The anthelminthic agents chloxylum and prasiquantel were examined for their effects in patients with an above 5-year history of Opisthorchis invasion. The van de Kamer procedure revealed that chloxylum produced an inhibitory effect on absorption of d-xylose and fat. Prasiquantel failed to impair the absorptive function of the small intestine. Helminthological curing in patients with chronic opisthorchiasis was not shown to normalize dysfunction of the small intestine.

65Zinc absorption was studied in five acrodermatitis enteropathica (AE) patients and in eight normal adults by means of a whole-body counting assay. Proportional mortality analysis revealed a significant deficiency in deaths from ischaemic heart-disease in males and a non-significant deficiency in females. It is suggested that this apparent protective effect of coeliac disease might result from malabsorption of dietary lipids.
