Helicobacter pylori is a kind of Gram-negative bacteria that parasitizes on human gastric mucosa. Helicobacter pylori infection is very common in human beings, which often causes gastrointestinal diseases, including chronic gastritis, duodenal ulcer and gastric cancer. MicroRNAs are a group of endogenous non-coding single stranded RNAs, which play an important role in cell proliferation, differentiation, autophagy, apoptosis and inflammation. In recent years, relevant studies have found that the expression of microRNA is changed after Helicobacter pylori infection, and then regulate the biolog…

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a well-known pathogen that infects approximately half of the world's population. It is a pathogenic agent with potential health hazards related to diverse diseases, especially digestive diseases, such as chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer, and gastric carcinoma. In clinical, antibiotics are commonly applied in eradication therapy of H. pylori. However, the increase in antibiotic resistance and side effects has induced the failure of eradication therapy. Recent studies have shown that probiotic supplementation has promising application prospects. It can restore t…

OBJECTIVES: Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) and colorectal neoplasia (CRN) are frequent entities. Epidemiological data suggest an association between H. pylori positivity (H. pylori +) and CRN, whereas pathophysiologic considerations substantiate a possible causal relationship. However, the relationship between CRN and H. pylori + may also be mediated by shared risk factors. Therefore, the aim of this cross-sectional study was to evaluate a possible independent relationship between H. pylori and CRN in a Central European cohort.
METHODS: We included 5,707 asymptomatic patients. All patients u…

BackgroundHelicobacter pylori (H. pylori), a bacterium implicated in the development of peptic ulcer and gastric cancer, is estimated to infect around half the world's population. Its prevalence in Australia is unclear. This scoping review aimed to evaluate all Australian literature providing estimates of the prevalence of H. pylori.MethodsAustralian studies examining H. pylori prevalence from 1982 onwards were eligible for inclusion. Medline, Embase and Scopus databases, and grey literature sources, were searched. Two independent reviewers undertook a two-stage screening process. Data were ex…

The infection caused by Helicobacter pylori is associated with several diseases, including gastric cancer. Several methods for the diagnosis of H. pylori infection exist, including endoscopy, the urea breath test, and the fecal antigen test, which is the serum antibody titer test that is often used since it is a simple and highly sensitive test. In this context, this study aims to find the association between different antibody reactivities and the organization of bacterial genomes. Next-generation sequences were performed to determine the genome sequences of four strains of antigens with diff…

A number of studies have revealed the association between Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection and the gut microbiota. More than half of the investigations on the impact of H. pylori on the gut microbiota have been the sub-analyses of the influence of eradication therapy. It was observed that H. pylori eradication altered gut microbiota within a short period after eradication, and majority of the alterations took a long period of time to reverse back to the original. Changes in the gut microbiota within a short period after eradication may be attributed to antibiotics and proton pump inhi…

BACKGROUND: Helicobacter pylori (Hp) eradication has been used for many years. Yet, the impact of this eradication on the normal gastric microflora is not well understood. In this study, we explored the effect of eradication on the stomach microbial community and its recovery after successful Hp eradication.
METHODS: Among the 89 included patients, 23, 17, 40, and 9 were included in the Hp-negative, Hp-positive, successful eradication, and failed eradication groups, respectively. Four subgroups were further determined according to disease status (Hp-negative chronic gastritis [N-CG], Hp-negat…

Helicobacter pylori infects half of the world population, being associated with several gastric disorders, such as chronic gastritis and gastric carcinoma. The Helicobacter genus also includes other gastric helicobacters, such as H. heilmannii¸ H. ailurogastricus, H. suis, H. felis, H. bizzozeronii, and H. salomonis. These gastric helicobacters colonize both the human and animal stomach. The prevalence of gastric non-Helicobacter pylori Helicobacter (NHPH) species in humans has been described as low, and the in vitro binding to the human gastric mucosa was never assessed. Herein, human gastric…

AIMS: Studies investigating the relationship between granulomatous gastritis (GG) and Helicobacter pylori infection have been largely inconclusive. This study was designed to determine whether the analysis of a very large number of patients would provide clearer answers evaluate the association between H. pylori infection and gastric granulomas.
METHODS: We used a large national database of clinicopathological data to extract 1,673,086 patients who underwent esophagogastroduodenoscopy with gastric biopsies between 2008 and 2020. In a case-control study, we evaluated the occurrence of H. pylor…

Helicobacter pylori, the most frequent pathogen worldwide that colonizes around 50% of the world's population, causes important diseases such as gastric adenocarcinoma, chronic gastritis, and gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma. In recent years, various studies have reported that H. pylori biofilm may be one of the critical barriers to the eradication of this bacterial infection. Biofilms inhibit the penetration of antibiotics, increase the expression of efflux pumps and mutations, multiple therapeutic failures, and chronic infections. Nanoparticles and natural products c…

The discovery of Helicobacter pylori infection in 1984 revolutionised the management of several common upper gastrointestinal diseases. However, some of the clinical practices that were adopted following discovery of this organism have become less appropriate over the intervening years. This article discusses five 'myths and misconceptions' that we believe have now emerged and which we argue need re-evaluation. Although the prevalence of H. pylori infection is decreasing in some developed countries, it remains a huge global problem and the most serious consequence of infection, gastric adenoca…

Helicobacter pylori is a pathogen that is considered to cause several gastric disorders such as chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer and even gastric carcinoma. The current therapeutic regimens mainly constitute of a combination of several antimicrobial agents and proton pump inhibitors. However, the prevalence of antibiotic resistance has been significantly lowering the cure rates over the years. Nanocarriers possess unique strengths in this regard owing to the fact that they can protect the drugs (such as antibiotics) from the harsh environment in the stomach, penetrate the mucosal barrier and de…

Helicobacter pylori (Hp) infection is closely related to chronic active gastritis, peptic ulcer, mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma, and gastric cancer, and is also associated with some parenteral diseases. Eradication of Hp can significantly improve gastric mucosal inflammatory response, prevent or delay gastric mucosal atrophy, intestinal metaplasia and its development, partially reverse atrophy, and reduce the risk of gastric cancer in varying degrees. In recent years, the eradication failure rate has increased. There are many reasons for the failure of Hp eradication. Previo…

Rosacea is a chronic, recurrent skin disease. It may be aggravated by various factors. An increased incidence of rosacea has been reported in those who carry the stomach bacterium Helicobacter pylori. The purpose of this study was determination of the relationship of this infection with rosacea and to investigate effectiveness of eradication therapy of H. pylori. As our results showed, 80.9% of study patients were infected with H. pillory. There was correlation between infection rates and rosacea severity. In most cases the positive test results for H. Pylori was found in patients with moderat…

Helicobacter pylori infection can lead to gastritis, gastric and duodenal ulcers, and gastric cancer. Consequently, complete eradication is the goal of therapy. First-line therapy for H. pylori infection includes clarithromycin triple therapy (clarithromycin, proton pump inhibitor [PPI], and amoxicillin or metronidazole), bismuth quadruple therapy (bismuth salt, PPI, tetracycline, and metronidazole or amoxicillin), or concomitant therapy (clarithromycin, PPI, amoxicillin, and metronidazole). However, many patients have relative contraindications to the antibiotics included in these regimens, m…

Helicobacter pylori causes one of the most common infections in human populations. The role of this bacterium in chronic gastritis, gastric ulcer, gastric cancer, as well as extra-digestive diseases such as ischemic heart disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, is well known. Prevention and control of these diseases can occur by early diagnosis and eradication of H. pylori infection. At present, different methods have been established to detect H. pylori infection. The biopsy-based tests, which are known as invasive methods, such as rapid urease test and histology, have the highest…

Helicobacter pylori, a pathogenic bacterium, has been known to be the root cause of numerous gastrointestinal disorders. In patients showing symptoms of its infection, antibiotic therapy is a likely treatment. However, the high cost of antibiotic therapy, associated antibiotic resistance along with other adverse effects has led to the use of probiotics for Helicobacter pylori treatment. In recent times, probiotics have played an essential role as complementary prophylaxis for gastrointestinal diseases, thus minimizing antibiotics' usage and their side effects. Probiotics are live microbial age…

Helicobacter pylori infection is a worldwide health problem, presenting with gastrointestinal (GI) or extra GI symptoms. The infection is more common in developing than developed countries. Crowded families, paternal education level, and socioeconomic status are among the risk factors of H. pylori infection. The infection is associated with some diseases such as iron-deficiency anemia, B12 deficiency, acute idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). Invasive and non-invasive tests could be used for diagnosis, while the gold standard is a biopsy specimen of GI tract. Nodular gastritis is the mo…
