The term cutis tricolor describes the combination of congenital hyper- and hypo-pigmented skin lesions in close proximity to each other in a background of normal complexion. It is currently regarded as a twin-spotting phenomenon and today is clear that not all cases of cutis tricolor represent one single entity. This phenomenon has been reported so far: (a) as an isolated skin manifestation; (b) as a part of a complex malformation syndrome (Ruggieri-Happle syndrome - RHS); (c) as a distinct phenotype [cutis tricolor parvimaculata]; (d) in association with other (e.g., vascular) skin disturbanc

A 1(1/2)-year-old boy with Langerhans cell histiocytosis presented with a frontal bone mass showing features of eosinophilic granuloma. He subsequently developed multiple asymptomatic discrete hypopigmented papules on the face, trunk and extremities, which, on histology, were confirmed as Langerhans cell histiocytosis, a presentation hitherto unreported in literature. He responded well to surgery and chemotherapy.

Lepromatous leprosy (LL) represents the highest infective and multibacillary form of leprosy. Clinical manifestations are consequent to the haematogenous spread of bacilli and include macules, plaques and nodules in a symmetric distribution or a diffuse infiltration of the skin. LL may mimic many different inflammatory and neoplastic skin diseases and in a small percentage of patients, skin manifestation may be atypical. This article reports the case of a South American child with LL presenting with symmetrically distributed hypopigmented macules previously misdiagnosed as pytiriasis alba, ato

BACKGROUND: Mycosis fungoides (MF) is the most common form of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma and typically affects older adults. It is estimated that less than 5% of MF cases are of juvenile onset. An uncommon hypopigmented variant of MF exists, which has been more commonly observed in dark-skinned individuals and predominantly in juvenile-onset cases.
METHODS: We describe an 8-year-old otherwise healthy Hispanic male who, by 6 months of age, had developed asymptomatic hypopigmented patches on the lower legs, thighs, and buttocks, which have evolved over the past 7 years. This condition had previo

A 12-year-old girl presented with a 1-year history of a Becker's naevus involving the right posterior thigh and gluteal area. In addition, three hypopigmented macules of naevus depigmentosus distributed in a segmental pattern on the medial aspect of the right posterior thigh had been present since birth. We suggest that their unusual coexistence in close proximity may represent an example of twin spotting.

OBJECTIVE: The aim was to review the procedure of tattooing and its various latest medical indications.
METHODS: Peer review of the literature on micropigmentation through a MEDLINE search was done to enumerate its various medical indications.
RESULTS: The literature review revealed widespread acceptance of micropigmentation for a spectrum of diseases of cosmetic importance, especially in mucosal vitiligo. Mic

Undifferentiated connective tissue disease (UCTD) is a condition characterized by the presence of clinical manifestations suggestive of a connective tissue disease and at least one non-organ specific autoantibody. In this report I am presenting three types of cutaneous pigmentary changes are presented in three patients which were the clue to the diagnosis of UCTD.

Two cases of an inflammatory vitiligo-like condition that simulated mycosis fungoides are reported. Both patients presented acquired hypopigmented macules sharply limited by an erythematous and papular border. The clinical aspect was suggestive of inflammatory vitiligo. Mycosis fungoides was suspected on skin specimens showing a dense band-like lymphocytic infiltrate with discrete nuclear atypias and marked exocytosis. This infiltrate was made of CD3 positive lymphocytes. CD8 positive lymphocytes were numerous in one case, few in the other. There was a loss of melanocytes in the lesional skin
