"Dark," but useful: Why the term still matters-Commentary on Chester et al. (2025).

Comments on an article by D. S. Chester et al. (see record 2026-29451-001). Chester et al. raised objections to the use of the term "dark" for describing antagonistic traits, such as narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy. Their central claim is that "dark" is stigmatizing, sensationalistic, imprecise, and potentially problematic. While their concerns merit careful consideration, it is notable that the authors provide no scientific evidence to substantiate them. Here, the commentators defend the continued use of this terminology while providing bibliometric evidence demonstrating that t

A guideline-based perspective on neurostimulation in treatment-resistant obsessive-compulsive disorder: An international overview.

BACKGROUND: Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a severe psychiatric illness associated with substantial psychosocial burden. Although evidence-based first- and second-line treatments are often effective, a significant proportion of patients continue to experience treatment-resistant symptoms. In such cases, brain neurostimulation is gaining increasing attention. This study aims to provide a structured overview of national and international clinical guidelines for the management of treatment-resistant OCD, with a particular focus on neurostimulation techniques. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Relev

Strong correlation between the gain in METs-load and training volumen after a cardiac rehabilitation program.

OBJECTIVES: The cardiac rehabilitation program (CRP) is an interdisciplinary therapeutic strategy that improves cardiovascular fitness (CVFit) with an impact on survival. It is not enough evidence that this gain is associated with the quantification of training volume (TV). Our hypothesis is that this gain in metabolic equivalent of task (METs) depends on exercise training dose. We aim to correlate the level of TV with METs achieved in patients with cardiovascular disease after a CRP. METHODS: The CRP program consisted of 3 weekly sessions (30 min session of aerobic [AR] training between 65-8

Resolving immune cells with patrolling behaviour by magnetic resonance time-lapse single cell tracking.

BACKGROUND: Immune cells show distinct motion patterns that change upon inflammatory stimuli. Monocytes patrol the vasculature to screen for pathogens, thereby exerting an early task of innate immunity. Here, we aimed to non-invasively analyse single patrolling monocyte behaviour upon inflammatory stimuli. METHODS: We used time-lapse Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) of the murine brain to dynamically track single patrolling monocytes within the circulation distant to the actual site of inflammation in different inflammatory conditions, ranging from a subcutaneous pellet model to severe perito

Self-efficacy predicts response to cognitive rehabilitation in military service members with post-concussive symptoms.

This study examined whether self-efficacy differentiated treatment responders from non-responders in a trial of cognitive rehabilitation (CR) for postconcussive symptoms. 126 service members with mild TBI seen on average 9.5 months since injury completed one of four cognitive rehabilitation treatments for 6 weeks. The four treatment arms were: (1) Psychoeducation control, (2) Self-administered computerized CR, (3) Interdisciplinary CR, and (4) Interdisciplinary CR integrated with CBT. Outcome was assessed across time (baseline, and 6, 12, and 18 weeks post-treatment) for three domains: psychol

Translating Interdisciplinary Research on Language Learning into Identifying Specific Learning Disabilities in Verbally Gifted and Average Children and Youth.

The current research was grounded in prior interdisciplinary research that showed cognitive ability (verbal ability for translating cognitions into oral language) and multiple-working memory endophenotypes (behavioral markers of genetic or brain bases of language learning) predict reading and writing achievement in students with and without specific learning disabilities in written language (SLDs-WL). Results largely replicated prior findings that verbally gifted with dyslexia score higher on reading and writing achievement than those with average verbal ability but not on endophenotypes. The

Association between periodontitis and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in community-dwelling adults: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Both non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and periodontitis are prevalent chronic conditions. While prior research indicates a possible connection between these diseases, the conclusions in the existing literature are highly variable and the findings are inconsistent. Consequently, there is an urgent need for a comprehensive evaluation of this relationship. This study conducted a systematic search of the PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science databases, encompassing research published up to June 25, 2025, to assess the association between NAFLD and periodontitis. The review incorporat

A systematic review and meta-analysis of medical and psychosocial care procedures for children and adolescents after (online) sexual abuse.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Child sexual abuse (CSA) and online child sexual abuse (OCSA) continue to pose an increasing challenge. Although structured interventions exist for CSA, no established framework currently addresses OCSA, and research on effective care procedures is scarce. Initially focused on OCSA, this review expanded to include CSA due to the absence of OCSA-specific studies, enabling a more comprehensive synthesis. The review outlines medical and psychosocial care procedures after CSA and provides recommendations for OCSA. METHODS AND RESULTS: 53 studies published between 1995 an
