Attitudes of patients after "genetic" termination of pregnancy.

Twelve of 15 women who had had abnormal fetuses agreed to be interviewed after termination of the pregnancy. The survey showed that persistent adverse psychological and social reactions may be much commoner in patients undergoing termination of pregnancy for genetic rather than "social" indications. Adequate information and counselling before, and support after, termination of an abnormal pregnancy are essential if these women are to cope with the experience.

["Fit4You"--A Programme for Prevention and Reduction of Overweight in Apprentices in the Workplace Setting].

The effect of health promotion at the worksite for overweight adolescents is not known. This 2-year intervention study examined the effect of a multimodal programme including nutrition counselling, sport, and life-skill training on medical and psychological outcomes. The body mass index increased slightly less in the intervention group. Semistructured interviews at the end showed that participants are highly interested in health promotion at the worksite.

Validity of the Beck Depression Inventory-Fast Screen in multiple sclerosis.

INTRODUCTION: The Beck Depression Inventory-Fast Screen (BDI-FS) is a brief self-report inventory designed to evaluate depression in patients with medical illness. As depressive disorder is especially prominent in multiple sclerosis (MS), a cost-effective procedure for identifying depressive disorder in MS is sorely needed. The BDI-FS may be useful in this regard although, to date, its validity in MS patients has not been assessed. METHODS: Fifty-four consecutive MS patients were studied. All underwent psychological assessment, which included the BDI-FS and other self-report measures of depre

Psychological Mediation of Dysfunction and Hyperfunction of Respiratory Regulation.

This research investigates the continuum between the dysfunction and the hyperfunction of breath regulation and presents the psychological mediation that supports or disrupts this regulation. The pilot study compared breathing regulation in patients with hyperventilation syndrome (HVS), free divers, and healthy volunteers. To examine the ability of voluntary respiration regulation, breath holding involving "easy-going" and "struggling" phases was used. Psychological mediation was assessed through (a) respiratory experience interviews, (b) anxiety levels, and (c) psycho-semantic techniques. Fre

["We are body, soul and spirit": Person, disease and processes of healing and exorcism in contemporary Catholicism in Argentina].

At the intersection of religion and health, demands for healing, liberation and exorcism express undefined discomforts that span from physical and psychiatric conditions to relational and psychological problems. To understand this growing demand in the population, this study seeks to analyze, on the one hand, the underlying conceptions of person and disease and, on the other, the therapeutics that priests and their assistants put into action, based on an ethnographic study with participant observation and in-depth interviews carried out between 2013 and 2017 in parishes in the city of La Plata

How Does NIL Policy Impact the Well-Being of College Athletes and Beyond: A Multi-Stakeholder Perspective.

IntroductionThis study examines the multifaceted impacts of the NCAA's NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) policy, which became effective on June 30, 2021, on the psychological well-being of Division I college athletes. The policy permits athletes to earn income from their NIL contracts, creating new roles as brand ambassadors and increasing the commercial use of social media. However, this expanded freedom can compound existing mental health challenges-including anxiety, stress, and burnout-that stem from athletic and academic commitments.MethodsEmploying semi-structured interviews with 14 Divisi
