We have developed a mouse duodenojejunal bypass (DJB) surgical model that is for studying the effects of bariatric surgery on glucose homeostasis and has potential to impact clinical therapy of diabetes. The operation consists of using the majority of the duodenum and proximal part of the jejunum for biliopancreatic diversion. PURPOSE: Maintaining microcirculation via NOS function is critical for intestinal adaptation for short bowel syndrome (SBS). We investigated the dynamics of tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4), a key NOS cofactor, and the therapeutic potential of BH4 in our experimental SBS model.

Fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD) commonly involves the renal and carotid arteries. However, visceral arterial involvement is rare. We report a 39-yr-old male who developed ischemic bowel disease twice (once in the jejunal artery and once in the sigmoid artery) as a result of FMD.
