Lymphadenopathy is a very common finding during the course of Whipple's disease (W.D.). Abdominal (mesenteric and retroperitoneal) tumoral lymphnodes may mimick malignant neoplasm, specially a lymphoma. An infant whose miliary tuberculosis was resolving after five months of chemotherapy developed a tuberculous cervical lymphatic abscess followed shortly thereafter by life-threatening tracheal compression from enlarged tuberculous mediastinal nodes. Both of these complications required surgical drainage. Chemotherapy alone may be ineffective in the management of lymphadenitis caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

Acute lymphatic filariasis developed in an American traveling recreationally to Asia. The illness was characterized by fatigue, eosinophilia, and lymphedema of the arm and chest wall, but no lymphangitis, lymphadenitis, or pain. Complete resolution occurred over 1-2 years. We discuss this syndrome and describe the use of new diagnostic tests in its diagnosis and management.

Parotid swelling in a child can represent any of a variety of pathologies, including lymphadenitis, autoimmune disorders, other inflammatory conditions, vascular malformations, or neoplasms. Parotitis is usually infectious in etiology and is generally treated with antibiotics and supportive management. We report a case of a child with recurrent idiopathic pneumoparotitis, and a review of literature and the disease process is provided.

Here we describe a rare case of pulmonary mucormycosis and simultaneous cervical lymphadenitis in a patient with acute myeloid leukaemia. The patient was successfully treated with liposomal amphotericin B. The diagnosis of Mucor is very difficult, especially in severely immunocompromised patients. This report seems to be the first case about documented lymph node involvement by mucormycosis in humans.

Primary cutaneous nocardiosis can present as cellulitis or abscess with or without lymphadenitis. In South Texas children with suspected Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes skin and soft tissue infections who do not improve as expected with appropriate antibiotics, physicians should consider Nocardia brasiliensis in the differential diagnosis, especially if there are multiple lesions in a lymphocutaneous distribution.

A case of a rare form of BCG osteomyelitis in the spine is presented. After vaccination, the disease started with a lymphadenitis. Later an abscess extended from the pelvic along the psoas muscles into the retroperitoneum. The soft tissue mass extended paraspinally and epidural involvement was also apparent. The vertebral involvement was detected by CT. The radiological findings are discussed with reference to the literature.

INTRODUCTION: Kikuchi-Fujimoto (KF) disease, also known as necrotizing histiocytic lymphadenitis, is a rare cause of fever of unknown origin. Most commonly seen in Japanese populations, it presents with fever and diffuse lymphadenopathy. Periportal tuberculous lymphadenitis with obstructive jaundice is rare and may mimic malignancy. We report a case of obstructive jaundice caused by a periportal tuberculous mass confirmed by fine-needle aspiration and GeneXpert. Treatment was complicated by anti-tuberculous drug-induced liver injury. Tuberculosis should be considered in the differential diagnosis in endemic settings.

We present here a case of bronchial obstruction secondary to late paradoxical reactive enlargement and erosion by mediastinal lymph nodes into the left main bronchus in a 26-year-old woman with tuberculosis lymphadenitis. Bronchial obstruction due to paradoxical reactions, especially in the late phase of treatment, has not been described in adults before.

Tularemia has been recognized for more than 10 y in Serbia, since the first epidemic of tularemia occurred in Sokobanja region in 1999. We report 2 cases of oropharyngeal tularemia in a father and son after the consumption of under-cooked rabbit meat. Both presented with fever, unilateral tonsillopharyngitis and cervical lymphadenitis.

Naturally acquired plague was diagnosed in 5 domestic cats. The cats apparently contracted the disease through contact with sylvatic rodents or their fleas in plague-enzootic areas. The diagnosis was confirmed by direct immunofluorescence and isolation of Yersinia pestis on culture of abscess material. Abscess formation, lymphadenitis, lethargy, and fever were consistent clinical findings.

A five-year-old boy developed primary tuberculosis of the conjunctiva which spread to the preauricular and cervical lymph nodes, producing caseous lymphadenitis. Because conjunctival tuberculosis is rare, the correct diagnosis may be easily missed. When unilateral conjunctivitis is accompanied by lymph node enlargement and persists or progresses, tuberculosis should be suspected.

We present the case of a 6-year-old girl with cat-scratch disease (CSD), who developed severe pleuritis without lymphadenitis. Bartonella henselae DNA was detected on real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis of whole blood. This is the first report of CSD diagnosed on real-time PCR using whole blood.

Clinical efficacy was studied with cefadroxil powder for syrup in 35 pediatric patients including 20 acute tonsillitis and pharyngitis, 6 scarlet fever, 2 cervical lymphadenitis and 7 urinary tract infections. The results indicated a 97% effectiveness when 'excellent' and 'good' ratings were combined. A mild skin rash was observed in 1 patient.

Bartonella henselae is an etiologic agent of cat-scratch disease and, in immunocompromised patients, of bacillary angiomatosis and other severe syndromes.
