Prevalence of dental anomalies in various malocclusions.

INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of dental anomalies in different orthodontic malocclusions. METHODS: Based on pretreatment diagnostic records, 900 orthodontic patients were classified as Class I (n = 358), Class II (n = 325), Class II Division 2 (n = 51), or Class III (n = 166). The occurrence rates of each dental anomaly were calculated as percentages of the total sample. Differences in incidence rates of each dental anomaly by sex and malocclusion were analyzed by using chi-square, Fisher exact, and z tests. The Mann-Whitney U test was used to determin

Functional therapy and adenotonsillectomy clinical trial for class II malocclusion (FACT-II): protocol for a randomised controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Class II malocclusion with mandibular retrognathia is a common complication of paediatric obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), often accompanied by transverse maxillary deficiency. In early orthodontic treatment, a twin block (TB) is a regular functional appliance for correcting this malocclusion. For paediatric OSA, the most common risk factor is adenotonsillar hypertrophy (AHT). Untreated AHT may lead to the persistence and worsening of obstructive sleep-disordered breathing traits, including habitual mouth breathing. Additionally, the clockwise mandibular rotation associated with A

A clinical approach to managing open-bite malocclusion associated with severe crowding.

Open bite has been identified as one of the most challenging malocclusions in orthodontics. The treatment approach is complex, the resulting esthetics may not meet the patient's expectations, and the chance of recurrence is high. A 13-year-old girl presented a skeletal Class II malocclusion associated with anterior and posterior open bite, maxillary transverse deficiency, severe anterior crowding, and a hyperdivergent facial pattern. Orthodontic treatment was performed with a Haas expander and subsequent standard edgewise appliances, and the 4 first premolars were extracted. The vertical contr

Accuracy of cephalometric landmark and cephalometric analysis from lateral facial photograph by using CNN-based algorithm.

Cephalometric analysis is the primary diagnosis method in orthodontics. In our previous study, the algorithm was developed to estimate cephalometric landmarks from lateral facial photographs of patients with normal occlusion. This study evaluates the estimation accuracy by the algorithm trained on a dataset of 2320 patients with added malocclusion patients and the analysis values. The landmarks were estimated from the input of lateral facial photographs as training data using trained CNN-based algorithms. The success detection rate (SDR) was calculated based on the mean radial error (MRE) of t

Volumetric assessment of inferior turbinate and nasal floor morphology in skeletal malocclusions: A cone-beam computed tomography-based anatomical study.

BACKGROUND: Alterations in the anatomy of the inferior turbinate and nasal floor have been linked to airway resistance and dento-skeletal malocclusions. Few studies have quantified these relationships using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). This study aimed to determine whether the morphology and volume of the inferior nasal turbinate and adjacent structures differ among sagittal dento-skeletal patterns. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective study included 81 patients, divided into Class I (n = 20), Class II (n = 32), and Class III (n = 29) based on their dental occlusion. All patient

Association between post-orthodontic treatment gingival margin alterations and symphysis dimensions.

Orthodontic therapy is known to be associated with the development of gingival recession. Several factors may be involved in the causal chain of this outcome, including anatomical and behavioral aspects. Among the anatomical aspects, the dimensions of the mandibular symphysis could play a predisposing role. This study evaluated the relationship between the mandibular symphysis dimensions prior to orthodontic therapy and the development of gingival recessions on the lower incisors and cuspids. Records from 189 orthodontically treated adolescents were evaluated, including radiographs, casts and
