PURPOSE: To evaluate changes in the donor corneal endothelium in the intact globe and in the in vivo rabbit cornea to characterize more fully the formation of "dark events" without relief images in the endothelial mosaic.

Histologic classification and subtyping of primary tumors of the exocrine pancreas have great prognostic value, although most tumors--such as duct cell adenocarcinomas--are consistently high grade with respect to biologic behavior. Three nephrectomy specimens with transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) of the renal pelvis were thoroughly examined by both light and scanning electron microscopy. The tumours as well as the urothelium of the upper urinary tract were studied. In all three cases, extensive areas of the urothelium, even in places remote from the tumours, were found by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to be covered by pleomorphic microvilli. This suggests that there is a widespread failure of differentiation of the urothelium to a much greater extent than can be appreciated by conventional light microscopy.

Previous studies of squamate epidermal structure have focused on either histology and ultrastructure or oberhautchen surface texture as revealed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The development of the vascular bed in the rabbit ear was investigated using vascular corrosion casts from animals of various ages. Examination of the casts revealed that the arrangement of the major auricular arteries and veins was determined before birth and was maintained during postnatal growth of the ear.
