We have previously shown that objective measurements of blood flow changes constitute a useful index in assessing susceptibility to nausea produced by cross-coupled angular accelerations (Coriolis stimulation). The findings of this study confirm the value of using the same technique for assessing the degree of nausea produced by pseudo-Coriolis effects.

This article describes the management of a patient with limited shoulder range of motion (ROM) by use of an elevation splint. The limited ROM was believed to be due to structural changes in the tissues surrounding the glenohumeral joint following a Magnuson-Stack repair for anterior glenohumeral instability. Stridor due to obstructive causes is relatively common. Functional airway obstruction with paradoxical vocal cord motion is uncommon. Only 12 cases have been reported in the literature in the past 15 years. The majority were young female patients. We have recently encountered two cases. Lack of awareness of this condition caused several problems in management.

Pressure difference (PD) across the mitral valve was analyzed by a computer-aided catheter system in dogs. Positive PD (PPD) was consistently traced in the initial phase of rapid filling. While heart rate (HR) was below 100 beat/min, a negative PD (NPD) followed the above PPD. A longitudinal study evaluated the susceptibility to motion sickness in initially unfit subjects before and after an endurance training program. Motion stimulation was provided by the Precision Angular Mover, in which the subject was tumbled head over heels about an Earth-horizontal axis at 20 cycles per minute in darkness. The load-displacement behavior of 35 fresh adult cervical spine motion segments was measured in compression, shear, flexion, extension, lateral bending and axial torsion tests. A prospective computed tomographic and complex-motion tomographic evaluation was performed in 18 suspected or proven cases of otosclerosis. Although there was good agreement between both methods, there was no greater diagnostic accuracy with computed tomography. However, computed tomography demonstrated the changes better than complex-motion tomography.

Range-of-motion exercises are an established and widely accepted therapeutic modality in the treatment of the person with spinal cord injury and are usually uneventful. Occasionally, however, accidents do occur; among them are fractures and dislocations of limbs. An unusual "slice" fracture of L4, related to range of motion exercises, occurred in a young man who was a quadriplegic and converted him from upper to lower motor neuron bowel, bladder and sexual function. This iatrogenic fracture, although extremely rare, can be prevented if symptoms are properly interpreted.
