AIMS: This scoping review aimed to identify and describe the main components of nurse-led interventions for TB patients.
METHODS: A comprehensive search was conducted across Embase, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science with no restrictions applied. Studies were eligible if they reported nurse-led interventions for TB patients in either clinical or community settings. Two reviewers independently screened t

INTRODUCTION: The main aim of pharmacovigilance, a public health activity, is to communicate, collect and evaluate notifications of adverse reactions to drugs (ARD) received from health professionals. Among this collective, nurses are in an optimal position due to their knowledge of pharmacology and their role in the front line of patient care.
METHOD: We performed a search of the ARD reported by nursing staff in Extremadura from january 1, 2000 to december 31, 2005 through the pharmacovigilance information system of Extremadura.
RESULTS: A total of 1,502 ARD were notified to the Spanish pha

As the use of robotic aides increases the possibility of telesurgery, the perioperative scope of practice could include using patients' homes or other nontraditional settings as surgical sites. Even mobile surgical vans could be used. To perform telesurgery, the health care industry actively must define the role of the health care professional with the patient who can make an incision and insert a laparoscope. This may create an opportune time to promote the RN first assistant (RNFA) role--a goal that will involve expanding our state nurse practice acts to allow RNFAs to perform various functi

BACKGROUND: Volunteers can provide staff-directed sensory inputs to infants hospitalized in the NICU, but research on volunteer programs is limited.
PURPOSE: To evaluate the feasibility of a developmental care partner (DCP) program in a level III NICU and determine its relationship with provider burnout and infant infection rates.
METHODS: DCPs were trained to provide sensory input to infants, based on the behavioral cues observed by the occupational therapists and nursing staff, in medically stable infants. Feasibility was assessed by documenting the process of training and utilizing volunt

Communication is fundamental in palliative care, yet the language used by health care providers may unintentionally perpetuate stigma, bias, or misunderstanding during emotionally challenging conversations. Inclusive language, defined as communication that is respectful, person-centered, and culturally responsive, fosters trust, supports shared decision-making, and promotes equitable care for patients and families facing serious illness. This article examines the role of inclusive language in palliative care through the lens of Carper's pattern of personal knowing and explores common communica

BACKGROUND: There is a shortage of primary and mental health care providers in rural U.S. communities, contributing to poor health outcomes among rural populations. We developed a Regional Delivery Model as part of a Doctor of Nursing practice (DNP) program to address this shortage.
METHOD: Annual surveys for rural students included a Likert-type scale and open-ended questions. We tracked enrollment, dropout and graduation rates, and employment data. Descriptive statistics were calculated for all survey responses. Qualitative descriptive analysis was conducted for open-ended responses.

This article is a retrospective descriptive analysis of the first 1,000 births conducted by the Nurse-Midwifery Group of Fresno County, California, over the period from 1980 to 1985. The multiethnic patient population was of mixed obstetric risk. Nurse-midwifery care was offered within the context of a comprehensive maternity care program in close collaboration with a perinatal health care team. Patient care outcomes were quite favorable when compared with county and state statistics. A perinatal mortality rate of 7.0/1,000 was observed. The incidence of low birth weight infants (5.7%) and the

More information is needed on how to recruit and retain rural health professionals, especially during times of crisis. In this article, we explore the experiences of rural health professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic. We conducted in-depth, semi-structured interviews with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and allied health professionals in the state of Minnesota from 2023 to 2024 (n = 17) and used iterative thematic analysis to identify key themes. Two key themes emerged from our analysis as challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic: staffing shortages and the politicization

Chlamydia trachomatis, a gram-negative bacterium that often causes no symptoms, is creating a hidden epidemic. The asymptomatic nature of chlamydia promotes its spread; chlamydia is the most commonly reported notifiable disease in the United States. Nurse practitioners, as community members, create the optimal foundation for a healthy community. An interventional community approach to capture and treat asymptomatic chlamydia through the use of open and honest communication in a university health setting was used. A group of 550 sexually active males and females ages 18-24 years who accessed a

WHAT IS KNOWN ON THE SUBJECT?: Because the definition of spirituality is complex and has cultural and individual dimensions, it is important to be receptive to individual differences in the perception of spirituality during clinical practice of mental health nurses. Although enhancing spiritual care is beneficial to patients diagnosed with mental illnesses, the extrinsic (e.g., education) and intrinsic factors that would affect nurses' attitudes towards spiritual care have not been investigated. Notwithstanding the known impact of certain intrinsic factors (e.g., personality-related) of mental

BACKGROUND: Missed nursing care undermines nursing standards of care and minimising this phenomenon is crucial to maintaining adequate patient safety and the quality of patient care. The concept is a neglected aspect of human resource for health thinking, and it remains understudied in low-income and middle-income country (LMIC) settings which have 90% of the global nursing workforce shortages. Our objective in this review was to document the prevalence of missed nursing care in LMIC, identify the categories of nursing care that are most missed and summarise the reasons for this.
METHODS: We

Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita is a congenital syndrome characterized by multiple contractures, rigid joints, and significant limitation of movement. Intervention, beginning in infancy, requires a comprehensive, holistic, family-centered approach. Long-range goals include achieving maximum range-of-motion and independence in accomplishing activities of daily living. Nursing care must address the developmental, physical, and emotional needs of the child as well as the psychologic concerns and educational needs of parents. The nurse acts as the coordinator of care to assure that the child re

Community nurses face numerous challenges in both diagnosing and effectively treating their patients. The diabetic patient has complex needs requiring a holistic approach. With a reported increase in diabetic patients, and a possible decline in some routine screening following Covid-19 pandemic, complications in diabetic patients are likely to rise. It is estimated that 25% of diabetic patients will develop a diabetic foot ulcer (DFU), with a reported 43% of DFU already infected at first presentation to a health professional. NICE categorise the level of infection in DFU based on standardised
