An efficient catalytic method to convert an α-C-H bond of N-alkylamines into an α-C-alkynyl bond was developed. In the past, such transformations were carried out under oxidative conditions, and the enantioselective variants were confined to tetrahydroisoquinoline derivatives. A facile mechanochemical method was employed to accomplish one-pot encapsulation of anti-cancer drug 5-fluorouracil (5-FU as guest) in a metal-organic framework (HKUST-1 as host). Vibrational spectroscopy via inelastic neutron scattering was applied to probe guest-host interactions arising from nanoscale confinement. We compare 5-FU@HKUST-1 derived from in situ and ex situ encapsulation.

Five thiosemicarbazones (H2Ln) derived from 4,6-diacetylresorcinol (n = 1-4) and salicylaldehyde (n = 5) have been synthesized and spectroscopically characterized. A novel "turn-on" fluorescence probe (HHC)2-Cu2+ for sulfide (S2-) was synthesized and characterized based on dihydroxyhemicyanine-Cu2+ complex. INTRODUCTION:: Intralesional treatment for cutaneous leishmaniasis has been applied for over 30 years at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, Rio de Janeiro, with good therapeutic results and without relevant systemic toxicity.

To improve the stability of the collagen, here we studied the interaction of chromium(III) polyphenolic complex, [Cr(GA)2] (GA: Gallic acid) with collagen using various spectroscopic techniques. Circular dichroism studies show that the [Cr(GA)2] and gallic acid did not induce any structural perturbations on the triple helix of the collagen. Both differential scanning calorimetric(DSC) data and micro-shrinkage temperature studies showed that [Cr(GA)2] stabilized the collagen by 6±1°C compared to gallic acid. An amino-functionalized conjugated metallopolymer PFEN-Hg was developed as a cathode interlayer for inverted polymer solar cells. The resulting devices exhibited significantly improved performance with power conversion efficiencies exceeding 9%.
