A 35-year-old parturient highly suspicious of the placenta accreta/increta was scheduled for cesarean hysterectomy. She had received two cesarean sections and two intrauterine curettages. Although molecular studies have shown that more than 90% of partial moles are secondary to diandric triploidy, there are some rare cases with tetraploidy or unspecified aneuploidies. We diagnosed 3 cases of partial mole presentation during the 2nd trimester of pregnancy with multiple fetal abnormalities. In all 3 cases, cytogenetic studies showed trisomy 13. We present the cases and discuss the clinical and pathological aspects of the conditions presented as partial moles.

We report a case of monozygotic twins whose mother was infected with measles at 19 weeks' gestation. One of the twins died in utero at 32 weeks' gestation. This study analysed the reproductive morbidity associated with 91 cases of retained placenta at the Obafemi Awolowo University Hospital in Nigeria. The incidence of retained placenta in the hospital was 1.4% of all deliveries. Over 42% of the patients were admitted in haemorrhagic shock; 56.5% were anaemic, 10.6% severely; 17% had puerperal sepsis while 67% of the women received blood transfusions. We describe a case of a 19-year-old G1P0 woman with an unremarkable prenatal course who presented at term in labor. Fetal bradycardia developed and forceps were used to deliver a male infant, who was born with Apgar scores of 0 and 0 and could not be resuscitated. Examination at autopsy revealed no gross evidence of trauma, but on microscopic examination of the lungs and the placenta, multiple fetal vessels contained emboli consisting of fragments of fetal cerebellar cortex. Previously reported cases of this rare phenomenon are reviewed and the pathogenesis is discussed.

Autoantibodies to negatively charged phospholipids (aPL) can cause fetal loss, including recurrent miscarriage and stillbirth.
