Six patients suffering from anaphylactoid reactions after infusion of pasteurized plasma (PP) or human serum albumin (HSA) were investigated. Clinical symptoms ranged from urticaria and hypotension to cardiac arrest. Immunoglobulin levels, especially of IgA, were normal, as were concentrations of complement factors C3, C4 and factor B. In skin and lymphocyte transformation tests patients, with the exception of one severely allergic to protein, did not react to the monomeric pure HSA. The Lyme disease bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi is a motile spirochete with a flat-wave morphology. The periplasmic flagella, which are situated between the outer membrane sheath and cell cylinder, are essential for both the cell's wavy shape and motility. Fawn, Burgundy rabbits were immunized with the mineralocorticoid receptor (MCR) purified biochemically from rat kidney by a simple, two step procedure. High anti-MCR titers were observed in radioimmunoassays just 3 weeks after the initial injection and increased further with time. We have undertaken cellular and biochemical examination of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid from nonallergic patients with asthma to determine the nature and degree of inflammatory process in symptomatic asthma. Six patients with asthma (mean methacholine provocative concentration causing a 20% fall in FEV1 was 0.26 mg/ml) and six control subjects underwent fiberoptic bronchoscopy with bronchoalveolar wash. The proportion of serum PRL that is glycosylated has been determined, and the effects of physiological and pathological hyperprolactinaemia on this proportion have been examined.
