This study aimed to determine whether dysphagia associated with gastroesophageal reflux disease was effectively treated with rabeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor. Sixty-eight outpatients with gastroesophageal reflux-associated dysphagia were enrolled in this study. Endoscopic esophagitis was confirmed in 52 of 68 subjects. The proton pump inhibitor rabeprazole was administered at 20 mg daily for 8 weeks. Rabeprazole was administered for a further 6 months to 16 subjects whose dysphagia was improved (10 mg/day) and 5 of these underwent 24-hr esophageal pH monitoring before and after treatment.

The chemical shift difference between the water resonance and the methyl resonance of N-acetylaspartate was used to determine the in vivo temperature in 43 patients with histologically proven brain tumors. Temperatures were also estimated from the contralateral side in 15 of these patients. There was a significant difference (p < 0.05) ] in temperature between meningiomas and the other tumors viz. low grade astrocytomas, grade IV astrocytomas and oligoastrocytomas. Temperature was also significantly different between the contralateral side and the meningiomas (p < 0.05).

The proximity of both kidneys and the liver, and a more complex target configuration, can pose a dosimetric challenge for conventional X-ray treatment and intraoperative irradiation. This study examines the effects of a proton pump inhibitor on a rat model of duodenogastric reflux. Duodenoesophageal reflux was induced in 60 rats by performing a duodenesophagostomy. The study group received daily intraperitoneal injections of a proton pump inhibitor for 6 months and the control group received an equivalent injection of saline. Rats were examined at death for macroscopic tumor, dysplasia, adenocystic changes, papillomatosis, and adenocarcinoma. We have investigated the effects of extracellular and intracellular pH on single channel and macroscopic (macropatches) currents through volume-regulated anion channels (VRAC) in endothelial cells. Protonation of extracellular binding sites with an apparent pK of 4.6 increased voltage independent of the single-channel amplitude. Absolute differential cross sections for the reaction ep-->epgamma have been measured at a four-momentum transfer with virtuality Q2 = 0.33 GeV2 and polarization epsilon = 0.62 in the range 33.6 to 111.5 MeV/c for the momentum of the outgoing photon in the photon-proton center of mass frame. The experiment has been performed with the high-resolution spectrometers at the Mainz Microtron MAMI. From the photon angular distributions, two structure functions which are a linear combination of the generalized polarizabilities have been determined for the first time.
