Background: Since its first description, laparoscopic adrenalectomy has become the gold standard for the surgical treatment of adrenal tumor … l decubitus position. Once transthoracic ports were placed, the diaphragm was incised, exposing the retroperitoneal space. At this stage, the adrenal mass was identifiable and dissected free from surrounding structures. There were no intraoperative and postoperative complications. The patient was discharged after surgery without opioid requirement. The pathology report …

Pelvic fractures with retroperitoneal hematoma are frequent injuries, and there are multiple treatment options for patients. In this case, a 35-year-old female patient suffered an unstable pelvic fracture due to a car crash, accompanied by the formation of a huge retroperitoneal hematoma. The vital signs of patient were not stable. The patient immediately underwent active anti-shock therapies such as multi-channel infusion, blood transfusion, blood volume supplementation, and blood pressure elevation. However, the vital signs of patient remained unstable, the abdominal circumference increased,

INTRODUCTION: Retroperitoneal tumors (RPTs) of the pelvis are rare and often present asymptomatically. We report a rare case of human papill … CUSSION: PRSCC is rare and can be misdiagnosed as a gynaecological neoplasm. HPV can migrate to the retroperitoneal space and act as a carcinogen in this location.
CONCLUSIONS: HPV infection may contribute to the development of PRSCC. Complete surgical resection, with adjuvant radiotherapy and chemotherapy, is a viable treatment approach.

The retroperitoneum is a large space where primary and metastatic tumors grow silently before clinical signs appear. Neoplastic retroperitoneal diseases may be solid or cystic, primary or secondary and range from benign to aggressive in behavior. Retroperitoneal neoplasms are notable for their widely disparate histologies. The solid primary retroperitoneal neoplasms are extremely uncommon and can be classified based on their tissue of origin into three main categories: mesodermal tumors, neurogenic tumors, and extragonadal germ cell tumors. These tumors can grow to a large size before clinical

Laparoscopic adrenalectomy has been used to remove a wide variety of adrenal neoplasms. Although several laparoscopic approaches to the adrenal gland have been described, the lateral transabdominal approach has several advantages when compared with other approaches for laparoscopic adrenalectomy. From October 1995 to July 1999, we performed laparoscopic adrenalectomies on 16 patients, including eight posterior retroperitoneal approaches and eight lateral transabdominal approaches. Sixteen patients, ranging in age from 23 to 69 years, were treated for the following conditions: non-functioning a

INTRODUCTION: Bochdalek hernias are a type of diaphragm hernia. Almost all occur in the neonatal period, only 5% of these hernias occurring in adults. We here present a rare case of adult Bochdalek hernia incarcerated in the extra-pleural space.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: An asymptomatic 51-year-old man was admitted to our hospital for a detailed examination after an abnormality had been detected on a chest radiograph. Chest computed tomography (CT) examination revealed findings consistent with a left Bochdalek hernia, which we repaied surgically. Intraoperatively, retroperitoneal fatty tissue was

BACKGROUND: Leiomyosarcomas are malignancies of smooth muscle differentiation that can metastasize early through hematogenous spread. Leiomyosarcoma of the sternum is extremely rare, with an incidence of < 0.7% among malignant bone tumors.
CASE: We report the case of a 66-year-old male with a retroperitoneal metastasis located in the right pararenal space, originating from a sternal leiomyosarcoma. Three years earlier, the patient had undergone partial excision of the sternum and costal cartilages, followed by thoracic wall osteosynthesis, for the primary tumor. Follow-up imaging with CT a

Castleman disease is a rare, heterogeneous group of lymphoproliferative disorders whose imaging characteristics can resemble malignancy. We present a case of a patient who initially presented with intermittent hypertension, palpitations, and chest pain. Despite a negative biochemical workup, CT imaging revealed a left retroperitoneal mass intimately associated with the left adrenal gland with 68Ga-DOTATATE positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET/CT) detecting uptake in the mass as well as several left para-aortic lymph nodes and bone lesions. Based on the imaging findings, the pa

BACKGROUND/AIM: Immunoglobulin G4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is a systemic, immune-mediated condition characterized by fibroinflammatory lesions affecting multiple organs. When localized in the retroperitoneum, it may mimic malignancy and often leads to surgical intervention. We report the case of a 21-year-old male with retroperitoneal IgG4-RD and review the relevant literature, emphasizing the diagnostic challenges and importance of differential diagnosis.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: A case report of a 21-year-old man with retroperitoneal IgG4-RD is presented. A literature review was conducted via

Cystic lesions of the retroperitoneum can be classified as either neoplastic or nonneoplastic. Neoplastic lesions include cystic lymphangioma, mucinous cystadenoma, cystic teratoma, cystic mesothelioma, müllerian cyst, epidermoid cyst, tailgut cyst, bronchogenic cyst, cystic change in solid neoplasms, pseudomyxoma retroperitonei, and perianal mucinous carcinoma. Nonneoplastic lesions include pancreatic pseudocyst, nonpancreatic pseudocyst, lymphocele, urinoma, and hematoma. Because the clinical implications of and therapeutic strategies for retroperitoneal cystic masses vary depending on the c

Two patients with congenital dysplasia of the lymphatic system and with chylous ascites are described. In one 24-year old woman with this rare condition, it was possible to demonstrate for the first time numerous mediastinal lymphatic cysts during lymphangiography. Both patients showed an abnormality of the retroperitoneal lymphatics, consisting of lymphatic dilatation and cysts. In the investigation of chylous ascites, direct lymphangiography must be regarded as a valuable and necessary investigation.

OBJECTIVE: To describe one case of hematocele secondary to rupture of an abdominoscrotal hydrocele in an adult patient.
METHODS AND RESULTS: We report a huge hematocele in a patient with this unusual type of hydrocele that suffered a minimal scrotal trauma. It was a hydrocele that extended through the inguinal canal to the retroperitoneal space.
CONCLUSIONS: Abdominoscrotal hydrocele is a rare condition in children and even rarer in adults. The presence of a hematocele requires early surgical treatment.

RATIONALE: Retroperitoneal colonic perforation is a rare cause of retroperitoneal abscess. It presents, more frequently in frail elderly patients, with heterogeneous signs and symptoms which hamper the clinical diagnosis. Subcutaneous emphysema with pneumomediastinum and iliopsoas muscle abscess are unusual signs. Colonic retroperitoneal perforation may be consequent to diverticulitis or locally advanced colon cancer. Due to the anatomy of the retroperitoneal space and different physiopathology, diverticular perforation may present with air and pus collection; on the other hand perforated colo…

Doege-Potter syndrome (DPS) is a very rare paraneoplastic condition that is marked by hypoglycemia brought on by a solitary fibrous tumor rather than an islet cell tumor. Soft tissue neoplasms termed as solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are rare and these tumors vary in the site of origin, from the pleural cavity, mediastinum, pericardium, retroperitoneal spaces, liver, thyroid, orbit, bladder, intestines, and soft tissues, while pelvic-derived fibrous tumors are incredibly unusual. There are currently extremely few documented cases and literature reviews both domestically and internationally. In…

Scrotal-inguino-retroperitoneal (SIR) lymphocele is a rare complication following kidney transplant. This entity is characterized by a tract originating in the retroperitoneal space, through the inguinal canal and scrotum following lymph hydrodissection. Systematic review investigating SIR lymphocele yielded cases with open fenestration of the sac into the peritoneum as treatment. We described a case report of a male in his 60s with a functioning kidney transplant and SIR lymphocele, which was successfully managed in the short term with percutaneous drainage of the collection. However, the col…
