Circhoral administration (250 ng/h, i.v.) of GnRH induced a preovulatory-like surge of LH and subsequent luteal function in 4 of 4 ewe lambs 1 month before expected date of puberty. Rats trapped from 14 locations in Baltimore, Maryland, were shown to have antibody to Hantavirus. Antibody prevalence rates were higher in residential locations than in parks. Infected rats were obtained continuously over a six-year period from 1980-1985 at five locations, indicating the enzootic nature of this infection in urban rats in the United States. Prevalence of antibody and geometric mean titers increased with rat mass and sexual maturity, suggesting that infections in rats are acquired through age-related mechanisms. We investigated the reproductive biology of an induced ovulator, the pine vole (Microtus pinetorum). Male puberty, measured as age at first impregnation, was found to occur as early as 44 days of age. Female puberty measured as age at first conception, was found to occur as early as 32 days of age, considerably earlier than previously reported. In four juvenile patients with Cushing's disease, the therapeutic approach used was unilateral adrenalectomy followed by irradiation of the pituitary. The follow-up time of these patients has ranged from 1.5 to 10 years. All four are clinically well. Concentrations of adrenal steroids are within normal limits and they require no additional medication. It is felt that this method gives young patients the chance for normal growth and pubertal development as well as a normal social life, so important in the stressful adolescent years, thus avoiding the handicap incurred by bilateral adrenalectomy

A study was made of the functional state of the gonads in 365 obese women. Clinical data were compared with the results of study of fractional composition of estrogens excreted with the urine at various phases of the menstrual cycle. Sexual maturation was examined in underfed or amino acid-deficient rats. We have demonstrated a highly significant negative linear relationship (r = -0.80, P less than 0.001) between the age at puberty and the growth rate in rats under conditions of food restriction.
