Motivators and Barriers to Research Participation in Adult Burns Survivors.

Adults living with burn injury often experience ongoing physical, social, and psychological impacts, yet relatively little is known about how these experiences shape their decisions to participate in burns-related research. This qualitative study aimed to explore the barriers and motivators of research participation among 24 adult burn survivors who took part in a two-hour Community Conversation using a condensed World Café approach. Thematic analysis generated five themes describing motivators (19 sub-themes) and four themes describing barriers (14 sub-themes). Willingness to participate in b

Effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of community perinatal mental health services on access, experience, recovery/relapse and obstetric and neonate outcomes: the ESMI-II mixed-methods study.

BACKGROUND: Perinatal mental health disorders affect one in five mothers during pregnancy or within 2 years post childbirth. These disorders can lead to poor pregnancy and childbirth outcomes and maternal deaths. Additionally, they negatively affect a child's cognitive, social and emotional development. Stigma and a lack of specialised services have limited access to mental health care. National Health Service England invested £365M in community perinatal mental health teams, but their impact on women and infants' outcomes are not known. Develop a taxonomy of community perinatal mental health

A Systematic Review of Artificial Intelligence Used to Predict Loneliness, Social Isolation, and Drug Use During the COVID-19 Pandemic.

This systematic literature review evaluates the role of machine learning, artificial intelligence (AI), and social determinants of health (SDOH) in identifying loneliness during the COVID-19 pandemic. By examining various studies and articles through a comprehensive search of databases EBSCOhost, Medline Complete, Academic Search Complete, Directory of Open Access Journals, and Complementary Index, the research team sought to discern consistent themes and patterns. We identified four constructs central to understanding the impact of the pandemic on societal well-being: (1) the prediction of co

Evaluation of Multidimensional Functional Impairment in Adult Sexual Assault Survivors, with a Focus on Its Psychological, Physical, and Social Dimensions, Based on Validated Measurements: A PRISMA Systematic Review.

Sexual violence (SV) is widely prevalent around the world: according to studies, 18 to 51% of women and 1 to 9% of men experience it at some point in their lives. Yet, experiences of SV are rarely disclosed outside the private sphere. Pathologies, acute or chronic, can be associated with SV. The study of the links between SV and health is often fragmented, viewed through the lens of a specific pathology, yet SV certainly has an impact on the different dimensions of the functioning of survivors (physical, psychological, social, and so on), whether or not there is an identified pathology at the

A Social Media Listening Study to Understand the Unmet Needs and Quality of Life in Adult and Pediatric Amblyopia Patients.

INTRODUCTION: Amblyopia is an important cause of monocular vision impairment worldwide, and it negatively impacts patients' quality of life (QoL). Understanding patients' perspectives may help to optimize treatment outcomes and improve treatment adherence. METHODS: This was a non-interventional, retrospective analysis of social media data available in the public domain posted by patients and caregivers on selected social media channels (Twitter®, forums, blogs, and news) from 12 countries between July 2018 and June 2020. RESULTS: Approximately 2662 conversations relevant to the research obje

Attitudinal and demographic predictors of measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine acceptance: development and validation of an evidence-based measurement instrument.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Parents' attitudes toward MMR vaccine and measles, mumps and rubella infections relate to their child's MMR status, therefore improving these attitudes is central to improving current suboptimal MMR uptake. However, no study has yet combined evidence-based, comprehensive and psychometrically validated assessment of these attitudes with reliable objective MMR status data, in order to identify through multivariate analyses the strongest attitudinal predictors of MMR uptake for interventions to target. The present study fills this lacuna by developing and testing a robus

Structural determinants and health-related quality of life among people living with HIV: a systematic review and meta-analysis protocol.

BACKGROUND: Antiretroviral therapy has increased life expectancy of people living with HIV, though estimates of quality of life remain consistently lower than that of the general population. Research on determinants of health-related quality of life among people living with HIV has predominantly focused on clinical factors, with limited attention to upstream structural determinants, or the economic, political, and social systems shaping resource distribution and health outcomes. Moreover, structural and social determinants are frequently conflated in the literature, challenging both conceptual

Modern-Day Relics of Psychiatry.

Constantly shifting cultural views influence public perceptions of psychiatric diagnoses, sometimes accommodated by changes in diagnostic terminology. Evolving scientific knowledge of the era is at times used to justify and support mental illnesses. Too often, however, remasked nomenclatures fail to alter social stigma, in part because political arguments are used. Scientific validations of variant behaviors as symptoms with a pathologic status are unfortunately overshadowed. Examples of cultural bias effects on recurring diagnostic challenges illustrate a need for scientific validation. Renam

Communicative Fractures in Chronic Pain: A Conceptual Model for Health Communication.

Chronic pain is inherently subjective and must become communicable before it can be interpreted, socially recognized, and incorporated into clinical reasoning. Existing scholarship has examined pain expression, interpersonal responses, validation and invalidation, patient-clinician communication, family communication, and communicative disenfranchisement, but these phenomena have often been addressed within partly distinct research traditions. This conceptual article develops and delimits the pain communication fracture model (PCFM) through an integrative synthesis of pain science, health comm

An evaluation of the psychometric properties of the Indicator of Relative Need (IoRN) instrument.

BACKGROUND: The Indicator of Relative Need (IoRN) instrument is designed for both health and social care services to measure function and dependency in older people. To date, the tool has not undergone assessment of validity. We report two studies aimed to evaluate psychometric properties of the IoRN. METHODS: The first study recruited patients receiving social care at discharge from hospital, those rehabilitating in intermediate care, and those in a rehabilitation at home service. Participants were assessed using the IoRN by a single researcher and by the clinical team at baseline and 8 week

Rethinking control strategies for plant-parasitic nematodes.

To improve management for plant-parasitic nematodes, new solutions must reflect biological realities and be guided by coherent, science-based regulations. This study addresses five areas: (1) regulatory and market hurdles that slow adaptation of biological control products despite strong safety records and scalable production; (2) microbiome-mediated soil resilience, including nematode-microbiome interactions, suppressive consortia, validated delivery systems, and diagnostics to shift soils toward durable suppression; (3) effective containment for nematodes of regulatory concern, and precise r

Can't help falling in love… with a bot? A mixed-methods analysis of public discourses of AI intimacy and companionship on YouTube.

INTRODUCTION: Loneliness is a major social problem, and AI companionship has become a contested response. Most research has focused on individual users, while less is known about how AI intimacy is debated in public-facing digital spaces. METHODS: This study examined 8,757 YouTube comments posted in response to a mainstream news video on AI companionship. Sentiment analysis, emotion analysis, and topic modelling were applied to the full corpus. Reflexive thematic analysis was conducted on 527 high-engagement comments. RESULTS: Five themes were developed. Commenters described AI companionship

Transdiagnostic links of reward processing in obsessive-compulsive disorder and depression.

OBJECTIVES: Transdiagnostic models aim to uncover shared mechanisms across mental disorders. Reward responsiveness (the ability to experience pleasure from rewarding stimuli) is a plausible, yet underexplored, transdiagnostic mechanism linking obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and depression. This study used network analysis to (1) examine how key reward responsiveness domains are interlinked in individuals with OCD and (2) explore how each domain is uniquely associated with OCD and depression. METHODS: A total of 1345 individuals with a history of OCD symptoms (ages 18-88, 71 % women) from
