Unmasking an Enigma: The Radiological Spectrum of Disseminated Cysticercosis.

Disseminated cysticercosis (DCC) is a rare parasitic infection caused by the systemic spread of Taenia solium larvae. This study presents a retrospective analysis of diverse radiological manifestations in five confirmed cases of DCC. Patients presented with varied symptoms, including localized swelling, pain, tingling sensations, and breakthrough seizures. High-resolution ultrasonography (USG) revealed typical cystic lesions, with or without scolex, surrounded by inflammatory changes or calcifications, while computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) provided additional conf

Case Report: Minimally invasive removal of impacted supernumerary teeth using digital 3D-printed surgical guides: a case series.

The surgical management of impacted supernumerary teeth (ST) remains challenging because of their hidden position and close proximity to vital anatomical structures. These guides offered accurate intraoperative guidance and minimized both bone removal and soft-tissue dissection. A standardized digital workflow that integrates cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and intraoral scans was employed to create patient-specific guides that precisely dictated the osteotomy location. The guides provided critical intraoperative guidance and minimized the extent of bone removal and soft tissue dissection

Orbital computed tomography imaging characteristics of thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy.

This study aims to investigate the distribution characteristics and correlations of orbital soft tissue volume expansion in patients with thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO) by analyzing orbital computed tomography (CT) data and to determine the most appropriate parameters and corresponding cut-off values for imaging classification. Patients with TAO who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, along with those with lacrimal duct obstruction requiring orbital CT examination, were included in the study. Raw CT data were imported into Mimics and RadiAnt software for analysis, and measuremen

Primary retroperitoneal angiosarcoma: A case report.

Angiosarcoma is a rare subtype of soft tissue sarcoma with identifiable vascular differentiation. It can occur at any age and develop throughout the body, but it is most commonly found in skin, soft, and breast tissues. Primary retroperitoneal angiosarcoma is rarely reported in the relevant literature. This article reports a case of primary retroperitoneal angiosarcoma in a middle-aged man, with the relevant literature reviewed in detail. A 46-year-old male had experienced left waist pain for 2 months. An ultrasonic examination revealed a mass in the left retroperitoneum, and left retroperiton

Role of imaging in CNS infections.

Neuroinfections are seen in both adults and children. These can result in serious morbidity and if left untreated and/or associated with comorbidities can be life threatening. Cross-sectional imaging like computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are advised by the clinicians for the diagnosing, confirmation of the diagnosis, assess any complications of the infection, and also for follow up. Though CT is the initial imaging investigation commonly asked by the clinician, due to its lesser soft tissue resolution, early brain changes may not be seen on CT. MRI has better soft

Two Thymomas of Different Histological Subtypes Arising in a Giant Thymolipoma: Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Thymolipoma is a rare benign tumor of the anterior mediastinum. Only a few reports describing thymoma arising within a thymolipoma have been documented in the literature. We report herein a detailed description of thymolipoma giving rise to 2 thymomas of different histological subtypes. A 74-year-old male with history of metastatic papillary thyroid carcinoma gradually developed 2 soft tissue nodules within a large right hemithorax fatty mass that was present for the past 20 years. Computed tomography (CT)-guided needle biopsy revealed one of the soft tissue nodules to be a thymoma, and the en

Nasopharyngeal Presentation of a Pharyngeal Cleft Cyst in a Dog.

A 2 yr old castrated male shih tzu was presented for assessment of worsening chronic snoring since first detected at 3 mo of age. An upper respiratory endoscopic examination and a computed tomographic scan showed a well-circumscribed, fluid-filled nasopharyngeal mass located in the median plane on the nasal side of the soft palate. This lesion was removed using a ventral approach to the nasopharynx by blunt-sharp dissection from the submucosal tissues of the soft palate. Histopathology revealed a cystic lesion lined by a single layer of a pseudostratified columnar ciliated epithelium, characte

Reverse sneezing as a clinical manifestation of nasopharyngeal-oropharyngeal fistula in a dog.

A 6-year-old spayed female Labrador retriever was evaluated for a 3-month history of intermittent reverse sneezing and gagging episodes. Pertinent findings at evaluation included frequent reverse sneezing and non-productive retching. No pathology was visible on sedated oral examination. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography of the skull revealed a gas-filled defect within the left ventral aspect of the soft palate. A non-eroded defect was present in the left caudoventral nasopharyngeal wall on nasopharyngoscopy. Surgical exploration revealed a nasopharyngeal-oropharyngeal fistula within the le

Surgical Management of an Intrathoracic Branchial Cyst in a Yellow-crested Cockatoo (Cacatua sulphurea).

A 40-year-old, female lesser crested cockatoo (Cacatua sulphurea) was presented with a complaint of hyporexia and sudden onset of sneezing and wheezing. Physical examination revealed mild stertorous inhalation, and the apex of the heart was palpable caudoventral to the distal tip of the sternum. Projection radiographic images showed a soft tissue mass displacing the heart and the thoracic portion of the trachea. A subsequent computed tomography series revealed a single, large, and predominantly encapsulated soft-tissue mass. The mass was contained within the cranial thoracic region and occupie

Inflammatory pseudotumour of the temporomandibular joint.

Head and neck inflammatory pseudotumors (IPs) are rare, idiopathic, non-neoplastic lesions that most commonly affect the orbit, but may involve other areas such as the larynx, oropharynx, paranasal sinuses, and meninges. We report the case of a 55-year-old man who presented with progressive left-sided hearing loss, aural fullness, and otalgia. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) detected a soft-tissue mass in the left temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Histopathologic examination showed overlying squamous epithelium with hyperkeratosis, parakeratosis, subepithelial fibrosis, a

Rupture of a pacemaker lead during the course of infective endocarditis.

A 23-year-old male who had a VDDR pacemaker implanted seven years ago due to sick sinus syndrome and recurrent syncope episodes was admitted with symptoms of dyspnea, fever, and tachycardia, which were present for a few days. He was suspected to be suffering from pneumonia and underwent computed tomography scanning of the thorax, which revealed widespread infiltration in the lung parenchyma and pulmonary emboli. Transthoracic echocardiography revealed an extremely mobile echogenic structure in the right atrium, which was determined to be the free portion of a ruptured pacemaker lead. There was

Isolated primary schwannoma arising on the colon: report of two cases and review of the literature.

Primary schwannoma of the large intestine is an extremely rare neoplasm. Here, we report two cases of colonic schwannoma confirmed pathologically after laparoscopic resection. A 52-year-old female and a 59-year-old female were referred by their general practitioners to our coloproctologic clinic for further evaluation and management of colonic submucosal masses. Colonoscopies performed in our institution revealed round submucosal tumors with a smooth and intact mucosa in the mid-ascending and descending colon, respectively. Computed tomography (CT) scans showed an enhancing soft tissue mass me

[Multimodality imaging of chronic tophaceous gout].

The diagnosis of gout is usually based on clinical presentation and laboratory findings. Imaging plays a role in the assessment and grading of articular damage related to chronic, long-standing disease, which is characterized by granulomatous synovitis, tophi, and erosions. Multimodality imaging of chronic tophaceous gout may be useful in clinical practice for a variety of purposes, including assessment of disease-related anatomical changes and monitoring of articular and soft-tissue lesions over time, especially in response to urate-lowering therapy. Radiography remains the primary imaging te

Case reports: management of large segmental tibial defects using a cylindrical mesh cage.

We report a case series of three patients who sustained open Gustilo-Anderson Type IIIB tibia fractures associated with extensive segmental bone and soft tissue loss. The patients initially were treated with serial wound irrigations, débridements, and external fixation. After the soft tissue envelope was reconstructed successfully, each large segmental bone defect was reconstructed with a cylindrical titanium mesh cage packed with a composite of cancellous allograft and demineralized bone matrix putty and stabilized with a statically locked intramedullary nail. The mean segmental bone loss was
