Translating algorithmic fairness into health practice: formative evaluation of the fairness-to-action framework.

INTRODUCTION: Algorithmic fairness is increasingly acknowledged as a critical concern in digital health; however, existing knowledge on fairness remains challenging to operationalize and systematically embed into routine practice. Our study examines the knowledge-practice gap through a formative evaluation of the Fairness-to-Action framework and the development of a guidance artifact. METHODS: The study was conducted within HealthEmove, a digital health initiative focused on electronic personal health records for mobile populations. Using an exploratory mixed-methods design, we interviewed 11

Stakeholders' Perspectives on the Development of the Early Pain Intervention After Knee Replacement Model of Care: A Qualitative Study.

OBJECTIVE: Persistent pain affects around 20% of Australians after total knee replacement (TKR), yet no dedicated Australian model of care exists to address this unmet need. The Early Pain Intervention after Knee replacement (EPIK) model is being developed, informed by the effective and cost-effective UK Support and Treatment After Replacement care pathway and extensive multistakeholder engagement. Before evaluating the EPIK model of care in a randomized controlled trial, it must be adapted for the Australian context. This qualitative study aimed to explore stakeholders' perspectives to inform

A mixed methods evaluation of the implementation of silver diamine fluoride in NHS primary dental care.

BACKGROUND: The rates of dental caries in young children in England are high. Despite evidence-based guidance being available to manage dental caries for young children, this is not routinely implemented. Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) offers an alternative approach to caries management. However, its use in England is limited and there are no data on the implementation of SDF in NHS primary care, where most children are treated. AIM: Explore the factors affecting the ability to implement SDF and specifically the acceptability and feasibility of treatment with SDF from the perspectives of child

Barriers and facilitators of implementation of liver screening in an outreach-based care pathway for people experiencing homelessness and substance use disorders: a qualitative study of clinicians' and stakeholders' perspectives.

BACKGROUND: People experiencing homelessness face disproportionate rates of liver disease, yet are often excluded from mainstream healthcare services. Vibration-Controlled Transient Elastography (VCTE) is a non-invasive method for liver screening increasingly used in community settings. However, evidence on implementing such screening pathways in outreach services remains limited. This study explored the views of clinicians and stakeholders on the barriers and facilitators to implementing a VCTE liver screening pathway within an assertive outreach drug and alcohol service in North West England

Research priority setting for unpaid carers of older adults, patients with palliative care needs and at the end of life in Australia.

BACKGROUND: Carers are individuals who provide unpaid care to family members and friends with disabilities, medical conditions, mental illness, or who are frail and aged. The contribution of carers to the Australian health, aged care, disability, and social care systems is significant. However, they face high levels of emotional, social, physical, and financial burdens. The Australian Government has recently introduced policy reforms to improve recognition of carers. However, there is limited evidence on research priorities to facilitate the translation of policies into practice. OBJECTIVE: T

Supporting self-determination in people with mild intellectual disabilities and drug-resistant epilepsy: A concept mapping study on the views of relatives and professionals.

BACKGROUND: Epilepsy, especially in combination with mild intellectual disabilities (ID), can substantially affect quality of life and self-determination. Individuals with both conditions face specific barriers to self-determination, including communication difficulties, overprotective attitudes and restrictions in daily activities. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to examine how different stakeholders-relatives, support staff and supporting professionals-perceive and support self-determination in people with mild ID and drug-resistant epilepsy. METHODS: Using a concept mapping approach, ideas on

Resilience testing in action - piloting the health system resilience testing tool with a pandemic scenario in Finland.

BACKGROUND: System-wide approaches to measure, prepare for and manage the next acute shock are needed. We document the application of the health system resilience testing tool to a hypothetical pandemic scenario in Finland. METHODS: The resilience testing tool promoted pre-crisis identification of resilience gaps and was built on the Health Systems Performance Assessment Framework and the Shock Cycle Framework. It included guidance on building a shock scenario, conducting a semi-structured resilience testing dialogue with health system stakeholders, and evaluating resilience. A hypothetical s

Mental health professionals and key stakeholder views on the treatment and support needs of trauma and adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse in South Asia.

People who have experienced trauma, especially adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse (CSA) are at risk of experiencing subsequent emotional and mental health difficulties. South Asian countries have high prevalence rates of CSA and other forms of complex trauma. Despite the requirement for mental health support for trauma survivors in South Asia, their needs are poorly understood, and specific interventions are still in their infancy. We aimed to explore the views of mental health professionals and key stakeholders on the mental health and support needs of trauma survivors, especially CSA

The French National Animal Health Surveillance Platform (NAHSP) was created in 2011. This network of animal health stakeholders was set up to improve surveillance efficiency for all health risks that threaten animal health, as well as zoonoses affecting human health. The NAHSP steering committee decides on the strategies and program of activities. It is composed of 11 institutions from both public and private sectors (policy-makers, scientific institutions, and representatives of farmers, veterinarians, hunters, and laboratories). A coordination team guarantees the implementation of the progra

Facilitators, barriers and ethical values related to the coordination of return-to-work among employees on sick leave due to common mental disorders: a protocol for a qualitative study (the CORE-project).

INTRODUCTION: Diagnoses related to common mental disorders such as anxiety, depression, adjustment disorders and stress-related disorders are one of the leading causes of long-term sick leave for both women and men in Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development countries. To increase the rate of return-to-work workplace involvement in a coordinated return-to-work process has been included in recent best practice guidelines. This form of cooperation is a complex process, involving political structures and a wide range of stakeholders. The study's first aim is to describe facilitators

The Importance of Integration of Stakeholder Views in Core Outcome Set Development: Otitis Media with Effusion in Children with Cleft Palate.

BACKGROUND: Approximately 75% of children with cleft palate (CP) have Otitis Media with Effusion (OME) histories. Evidence for the effective management of OME in these children is lacking. The inconsistency in outcome measurement in previous studies has led to a call for the development of a Core Outcome Set (COS). Despite the increase in the number of published COS, involvement of patients in the COS development process, and methods to integrate the views of patients and health professionals, to date have been limited. METHODS AND FINDINGS: A list of outcomes measured in previous research wa
